IndiGo-BIAL Pact: Airline to Set Up New MRO Facility at Bengaluru Airport
IndiGo has signed an initial agreement with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) to establish a new Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport. Under the pact, BIAL will allocate approximately 31 acres to IndiGo for the development of MRO infrastructure, supporting the airline’s rapidly expanding fleet.
This strategic move is aimed at enhancing IndiGo’s operational efficiency and service capabilities as the carrier continues its growth trajectory. The new facility is expected to bolster regional aviation growth, with market reactions largely positive in anticipation of improved maintenance capacity and faster turnaround times for aircraft.
However, the agreement may attract regulatory scrutiny, given the scale of the development and its potential impact on competition within the sector. Industry observers note that rival airlines could respond by expanding their own maintenance operations to maintain competitiveness.
The IndiGo-BIAL collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening India’s aviation infrastructure, positioning Bengaluru as a key hub for aircraft maintenance in the region.
