Nayak Expands Portfolio in Europe

Nayak Expands Portfolio in Europe
Nayak Aircraft Services is intensifying its expansion across Europe following the acquisition of Hovby Aero AB/Nordic MRO earlier this year. In a recent interview with Aviation Week Network, CEO Marco Smit detailed how this strategic move aligns with Nayak’s broader ambitions for growth, while also addressing the challenges posed by a sluggish European market and the potential shifts in competitor strategies.
Strategic Alignment and Enhanced Capabilities
The acquisition was primarily motivated by a strong alignment between the management teams and complementary service offerings. Smit highlighted that the shared service-oriented mindset and overlapping customer bases of both companies made the integration a natural progression. This consolidation is expected to enhance value for clients and stakeholders by broadening Nayak’s service portfolio.
With the inclusion of Hovby Aero AB/Nordic MRO, Nayak has established a presence at nearly all major airports in Northern Europe. This expansion enables the company to support a wider range of aircraft types and improve response times. Nayak is extending its core line and base maintenance activities, particularly in Scandinavia, while adding specialized capabilities such as ATR aircraft support and continuing airworthiness management. According to Smit, customers will benefit from a more comprehensive service offering and a strengthened support network throughout the region.
Navigating Market Challenges and Future Growth
The acquisition forms a critical component of Nayak’s strategy to cement its position as a leading maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider in Europe by 2025. Smit explained that the company is pursuing a dual approach of organic growth—enhancing maintenance solutions for airlines and lessors—and targeted acquisitions to accelerate its expansion. Despite this, he acknowledged the persistent sluggishness of the European market and the uncertainties that may affect both market dynamics and competitor behavior. Smit expressed confidence that Nayak’s emphasis on service quality and network expansion will position the company favorably amid these challenges.
Looking forward, Nayak aims to identify and acquire companies that can further extend its service portfolio and geographic reach. The company’s extensive network of line stations and base maintenance capabilities provides a solid foundation for this growth. Future acquisitions will be assessed based on their ability to contribute qualified personnel, equipment, and facilities that complement Nayak’s existing operations, thereby enabling more comprehensive services and improved responsiveness to customer needs.
Leadership and Integration Strategy
To facilitate a seamless integration, the leadership team at Hovby Aero AB/Nordic MRO will remain in place, with Stephane Klaver joining to support the development of Nordic operations. Smit emphasized the importance of retaining all employees, recognizing their expertise as essential to the combined company’s future success. He noted that the integration not only strengthens Nayak’s market position but also enriches its corporate culture through the infusion of diverse skills and perspectives.
As Nayak advances through a challenging European landscape, the company remains committed to innovation and maintaining high service standards, with the goal of delivering enhanced support and operational efficiency to clients across the continent.
