AerCap Delivers 100th Boeing 787 in Lease Deal with Aeroméxico

AerCap Marks Delivery of 100th Boeing 787 with Aeroméxico Lease Agreement
AerCap, a leading global aircraft lessor, has achieved a significant milestone by delivering its 100th Boeing 787 Dreamliner, coinciding with Aeroméxico’s receipt of its 25th aircraft of this model. The transaction, completed on August 14, 2026, involved the transfer of a Boeing 787-9 from AerCap’s extensive orderbook to Grupo Aeroméxico, representing the tenth Dreamliner leased directly from the Dublin-based company.
Expanding the Dreamliner Fleet
Since becoming the first leasing company to take delivery of a Boeing 787 in 2013, AerCap has solidified its position as the world’s largest owner of the aircraft, with a portfolio comprising approximately 140 Boeing 787s either owned or on order. The 787-9 Dreamliner is renowned for its advanced composite construction and fuel-efficient twin-engine design, which allows airlines such as Aeroméxico to operate long-haul routes more economically while significantly reducing carbon emissions.
For Aeroméxico, the acquisition of its 25th Dreamliner forms a key part of its strategy to modernize its fleet and expand its international reach across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The aircraft’s enhanced cabin pressurization and humidity control systems also contribute to an improved passenger experience. Max Alvarez, Senior Vice President of Fleet and Business Development at Aeroméxico, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating that it reflects the airline’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a modern, efficient, and world-class fleet.
Industry Implications and Market Response
This delivery highlights a broader trend within the aviation industry, where airlines increasingly rely on major lessors to access next-generation aircraft without incurring substantial upfront capital expenditures. Such leasing arrangements enable carriers to remain flexible and competitive amid a recovering global travel market and tightening sustainability requirements.
Following the announcement, AerCap’s stock experienced positive momentum, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s growth trajectory. Nonetheless, the milestone presents operational and financial challenges. Both AerCap and its airline partners must focus on maintaining the efficiency of their expanding 787 fleets and managing the long-term financial commitments associated with leasing contracts. Aeroméxico, in particular, faces the task of ensuring its Dreamliners remain competitive against rival aircraft as other airlines and lessors pursue similar fleet modernization initiatives.
Industry analysts anticipate that Aeroméxico will leverage its increased Dreamliner capacity to strengthen its position in key international markets. This development may prompt competitors to accelerate their own fleet renewal programs, potentially intensifying competition within the aviation leasing sector.
The successful delivery of the Boeing 787-9 not only reinforces the strong partnership between AerCap, Boeing, and Aeroméxico but also underscores the evolving dynamics of global fleet management. As AerCap celebrates this landmark achievement, Aeroméxico secures the advanced aircraft necessary to support its future growth on the international stage.
