Continental Extends Warranties on Avgas and Overhauled Engines
Continental Aerospace Technologies has announced a significant extension of its warranty coverage across its certified avgas engine portfolio, a development poised to influence both customers and the wider aviation industry.
Expanded Warranty Coverage
Under the revised policy, the warranty on new Continental engines will be extended from two years or time between overhaul (TBO) to three years or TBO, whichever comes first. Rebuilt engines will benefit from an increase in warranty duration from 18 months or TBO to two years or TBO. Additionally, factory overhauled exchange engines will now carry a warranty of two years or TBO, up from the previous coverage of one year or 300 hours. These enhanced warranties will apply to all certified avgas engine orders shipped after July 20, 2026.
Continental is also broadening warranty coverage for custom engine overhauls conducted at its Factory Service Centers, encompassing both Continental and Lycoming engines. Overhauls performed by Continental Services will now be backed by a warranty of two years or 450 operating hours, an increase from the prior one year or 300 operating hours.
Implications for Customers and the Industry
This extension of warranty terms is expected to provide customers with greater assurance and potentially lower maintenance costs over an extended period. However, the move may also introduce challenges for Continental, including increased warranty-related expenses and a possible rise in customer service demands due to the longer coverage period.
Industry analysts suggest that Continental’s decision could prompt competitors to reassess their own warranty offerings. Rival engine manufacturers may face pressure to match or exceed Continental’s terms to remain competitive, potentially leading to a shift in warranty standards throughout the sector.
Despite these challenges, Continental’s expanded warranty program underscores the company’s commitment to customer support and confidence in its products. For further details, visit Continental.aero.
