Long-Term MRO Development Agreement Anchors Oklahoma Air and Space Port Mission

Long-Term MRO Development Agreement Anchors Oklahoma Air and Space Port Mission
Premium Aerospace Center Oklahoma LLC (PAC) has entered into a strategic long-term lease agreement with the Oklahoma Space Industry Development Authority (OSIDA), setting the stage for a significant expansion at the Oklahoma Air and Space Port. The agreement, formalized during a recent signing event attended by OSIDA CEO Grayson Ardies and PAC CEO Jose Gonzalez, will facilitate a $65 million private investment on a nearly 12-acre site. This development includes the construction of a 130,000-plus square foot hangar, office space, and parking facilities, establishing the location as a key regional hub for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations.
Advanced Facilities and Economic Impact
The new facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art capabilities, including dedicated aircraft parking and the capacity to service any commercial aircraft currently in operation, such as the Boeing 777X. PAC plans to provide both traditional MRO services and specialized paint operations. Notably, the hangar will be among only seven nationwide to feature wide-body paint ovens capable of operating at 130ºF, enhancing its ability to serve large commercial aircraft.
State Representative Nick Archer of House District 55 highlighted the economic significance of the project, noting that the $65 million investment is expected to generate 200 new jobs in western Oklahoma. He emphasized the facility’s capacity to service some of the largest aircraft in the commercial fleet and described the lease signing as a pivotal moment for companies seeking to establish a presence in the burgeoning aerospace sector.
Addressing Industry Challenges and Workforce Development
The expansion occurs against the backdrop of broader challenges facing the global aerospace industry, particularly a shortage of skilled technical labor. India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently reported that nearly 55% of technical positions remain unfilled, underscoring the critical need for workforce development. This shortage is a pressing concern as regions worldwide, including China with its accelerated lunar ambitions, intensify competition for aerospace talent and technological leadership.
In response, PAC is collaborating with the Western Technology Center and local workforce development organizations to cultivate a highly skilled technical workforce. Senator Brent Howard of Senate District 38 underscored the importance of this initiative, stating that a skilled workforce is essential for attracting and retaining aerospace companies at the Oklahoma Air and Space Port. He affirmed Oklahoma’s leadership in aerospace expansion and workforce readiness.
Phased Expansion and Future Prospects
PAC’s expansion plan at the Air and Space Port is structured in four phases, with the full buildout expected to create between 450 and 600 new jobs in western Oklahoma over the coming years. Sumer Jones, Office Administrator at Premium Aerospace Center, expressed the company’s commitment to the region, emphasizing that the lease signing represents continued growth and dedication to the Western Oklahoma community. Jones affirmed PAC’s readiness to execute the multi-year expansion plan and contribute to strengthening Oklahoma’s aviation industry.
The OSIDA Board’s approval of the ground lease marks a significant milestone in the development of the Oklahoma Air and Space Port. As the state positions itself to compete on a global scale amid evolving market dynamics and increasing demand for aerospace innovation, this agreement underscores Oklahoma’s commitment to becoming a leading center for aerospace activity.
