Turkish Airlines has announced its intention to acquire up to 225 Boeing aircraft, comprising 75 wide-body B787 Dreamliners and 150 narrow-body 737 MAX jets, as part of a significant fleet modernization effort. The airline has finalized agreements with Boeing for 75 B787-9 and B787-10 aircraft, including 50 firm orders and 25 options, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2034. Concurrently, Turkish Airlines is engaged in negotiations with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace to secure engines, spare parts, and maintenance services for the B787 fleet.
In parallel, the airline has reached terms with Boeing for 150 737-8 and 737-10 MAX aircraft, consisting of 100 firm orders and 50 options. However, the completion of this order remains contingent upon successful negotiations with CFM International, the sole supplier of Leap-1B engines for the 737 MAX series. The outcome of these engine discussions will ultimately determine whether the 737 MAX order proceeds.

Turkish Airlines emphasized that the entire fleet is expected to transition to new-generation aircraft by 2035, a move aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and supporting an average annual growth rate of approximately 6%. This announcement follows high-level discussions between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and former U.S. President Donald Trump, during which broader topics concerning Turkey’s acquisition of American-made aircraft and defense equipment were addressed. President Trump suggested the possibility of lifting U.S. sanctions on Ankara to facilitate the purchase of F-35 fighter jets and expressed hope that Turkey would reduce its reliance on Russian oil imports.
