Continental Expands Warranty Coverage for Certified and Overhauled Engines
Continental Aerospace Technologies has announced an expansion of its warranty coverage for certified AvGas engines and overhauls, providing enhanced protection for aircraft owners on new, rebuilt, and factory-overhauled engines. The updated warranty terms, effective from July 20, apply to eligible certified AvGas engine orders shipped on or after that date.
Enhanced Warranty Terms for New and Overhauled Engines
Under the revised policy, new engines will now be covered for three years or until reaching their time between overhauls (TBO), whichever occurs first. Factory-rebuilt engines will see their warranty period extended from 18 months to two years or TBO. Similarly, factory-overhauled exchange engines will benefit from a two-year or TBO warranty, replacing the previous coverage of one year or 300 hours.
Continental is also broadening warranty coverage for custom engine overhauls conducted at its Continental Services factory service center in Fairhope, Alabama. Qualifying overhauls of both Continental and Lycoming engines will now carry a two-year or 450-hour warranty, an increase from the prior one-year or 300-hour coverage. This extension underscores the company’s confidence in the quality and reliability of the work performed by its service center technicians.
Commitment to Quality and Customer Assurance
Continental Services undertakes maintenance, inspections, repairs, and complete engine overhauls using original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and parts manufacturer approval (PMA) components, adhering to approved procedures and rigorous inspection standards. David Shear, director of Continental Services, emphasized the company’s dedication to craftsmanship and customer trust, stating, “Every overhaul represents the pride our team takes in its work and the responsibility we have to the customers who rely on their aircraft every day. Extending our overhaul warranty reflects the confidence in our craftsmanship and attention to detail that go into each specific engine we overhaul.”
The expanded warranty coverage arrives amid ongoing concerns over the substantial costs associated with major maintenance and engine replacement. By lengthening warranty periods, Continental aims to offer customers greater protection against defects in materials and workmanship following engine purchases or overhauls.
These updated warranties form part of Continental’s comprehensive warranty program for its certified piston-engine lineup. Specific terms and exclusions remain in place, including requirements related to installation, operation, maintenance, and adherence to applicable instructions and service protocols.
