Morocco Advances Air Force Modernization with Airbus H225M Helicopter Order Strategic Upgrade of Military Aviation Capabilities On 18 November 2025, the Kingdom of Morocco formalized a contract with Airbus Helicopters for the acquisition of ten H225M helicopters, marking a pivotal development in the ongoing modernization of the Royal Moroccan Air Force (Forces royales air). These new aircraft, designed for combat search and rescue missions, are set to replace the venerable Puma fleet, which has been in service for over forty years. This procurement forms part of a broader strategic initiative by Morocco to enhance its military aviation capabilities, complementing recent acquisitions such as the AH-64 Apache attack helicopters from the United States. The modernization drive aims to improve operational readiness and mission versatility, although it also presents challenges related to the integration of new platforms with existing systems and the management of potential supply chain complexities. Advanced Capabilities and Regional Support Expansion The H225M helicopters destined for the Royal Moroccan Air Force will be equipped with sophisticated mission systems, including a double hoist installation, searchlight, and the Safran Euroflir 410 electro-optical system. These platforms will also be armed with machine guns and outfitted with electronic warfare systems to enhance self-protection. The contract encompasses a comprehensive support and service package featuring connected services designed to maintain operational efficiency throughout the helicopters’ lifecycle. Globally, the H225 and H225M models boast a robust operational record, with over 360 units in service and nearly 980,000 flight hours logged. Military operators span multiple continents, including France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq, and Kuwait. The strong international presence of the H225M may stimulate further interest from other nations, while competitors such as Sikorsky and Bell are likely to respond by advancing their own military helicopter offerings. Airbus’s longstanding engagement in Morocco dates back to 1951 through Airbus Atlantic, which specializes in composite manufacturing, complex metallic sub-assembly assembly, and avionics maintenance. In 2024, Airbus Helicopters inaugurated a customer center in Morocco to support the 60 Airbus helicopters operated by the Royal Moroccan Air Force, Royal Navy, and Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie.
