Expeditors Expands Global Aircraft on Ground Services to Meet Growing Aviation Logistics Demand
Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. (NYSE: EXPD) has announced a substantial expansion of its global Aircraft on Ground (AOG) services to address the rising demand for urgent aviation logistics. This enhancement integrates dedicated critical logistics teams, round-the-clock in-office support, and access to Expeditors’ extensive worldwide network, enabling aviation and aerospace clients to respond swiftly and effectively to operational disruptions.
Addressing Industry Challenges with Enhanced Capabilities
The expansion responds to mounting pressures faced by airlines, aircraft manufacturers, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organizations, aerospace suppliers, defense clients, and advanced air mobility providers. Factors such as aging aircraft fleets and a surge in global air travel have intensified the need for specialized logistics support during unexpected aircraft downtime, critical parts shortages, and unplanned maintenance events.
Jim Cangiano, Global Director of Aviation and Aerospace at Expeditors, emphasized the critical nature of timely response in such situations. He stated, “When an aircraft is grounded, every minute is critical. Our expanded AOG capabilities combine specialized expertise, global reach, and around-the-clock execution to minimize downtime, maintain operational continuity, and manage complex logistics challenges efficiently.”
The enhanced AOG services feature dedicated global critical logistics teams available 24/7/365, customized onboarding with customer-specific operating procedures, and real-time shipment visibility paired with proactive milestone communication. Expeditors also offers flexible transportation solutions including next-flight-out, dedicated trucking, hand-carry, and charter options. Comprehensive end-to-end customs guidance and support are provided, alongside access to a network of over 300 locations worldwide for coordinated execution and final-mile delivery. Throughout the shipment lifecycle, enhanced monitoring, contingency management, and compliance oversight ensure operational integrity.
Strategic Positioning Amid Market Growth and Competition
This expansion forms part of Expeditors’ broader Critical Logistics Services (CLS) strategy, which aims to strengthen teams, capabilities, and infrastructure to support urgent, business-critical transportation needs. The company’s structured approach prioritizes rapid response, operational accountability, and continuous communication from initial request through final delivery.
The move comes amid robust growth in the third-party logistics market, which has attracted increased investor interest. Expeditors faces the challenge of managing escalating demand for time-sensitive aviation logistics as global fleets age and operational complexities intensify. Competitors are also advancing their offerings; for instance, Bridger Aerospace is integrating TracPlus data into its IGNIS platform to enhance logistics solutions, reflecting a wider industry trend toward technology-driven innovation.
Despite ongoing geopolitical conflicts and global disruptions, Expeditors reports minimal direct impact on its operations, highlighting the company’s resilience and capacity to maintain service continuity under challenging conditions.
With its expanded AOG capabilities, Expeditors seeks to establish a new benchmark for rapid, reliable, and comprehensive aviation logistics support, positioning itself to meet the evolving demands of the global aviation sector.
