Rolls-Royce Extends TotalCare Contract for Trent 700 Engines with Saudia

Rolls-Royce Extends TotalCare Contract for Trent 700 Engines with Saudia
Rolls-Royce has announced the renewal of its long-term TotalCare service agreement with Saudia, the national airline of Saudi Arabia. This extension covers the Trent 700 engines that power Saudia’s fleet of 31 Airbus A330 aircraft, ensuring comprehensive support for the carrier’s A330 fleet beyond 2030. Both companies emphasize that this continued partnership is vital to maintaining operational performance and reliability.
TotalCare Service and Partnership Significance
TotalCare, Rolls-Royce’s premier maintenance and service program, is designed to provide airlines with operational certainty by transferring maintenance costs and time-on-wing risks to the manufacturer. The program utilizes advanced engine health monitoring systems, offering data-driven insights that enhance aircraft availability, reliability, and efficiency. Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer for Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, expressed satisfaction with the agreement, highlighting the strength of the relationship developed over the years and the company’s commitment to supporting Saudia’s Trent 700 fleet well into the future.
Captain Ibrahim Koshy, CEO of Saudia, underscored the importance of the extended partnership, noting that TotalCare has been integral to the optimal performance of the airline’s Airbus A330 fleet. He emphasized that the service allows Saudia to focus on its core operations while entrusting Rolls-Royce with engine maintenance, thereby safeguarding the airline’s assets and reinforcing confidence in Rolls-Royce as a trusted partner for operational excellence.
Trent 700 Engine Performance and Market Context
The Trent 700 engine, which has accumulated over 68 million flying hours, is renowned for its exceptional reliability, boasting a 99.9% dispatch rate and the longest time on wing among A330 engine options. It delivers the highest thrust available for the A330, supporting superior take-off performance, range, and payload capacity.
The contract extension comes amid ongoing uncertainties in the Middle East, which present potential operational and financial challenges. Nevertheless, Rolls-Royce remains confident in its ability to mitigate these risks. The broader market has shown signs of renewed growth, particularly in the large civil engine and business aviation aftermarket sectors. Notably, flight hours for the Trent XWB engine in the Middle East have rebounded to pre-conflict levels, indicating resilience in the region.
Rolls-Royce’s recent achievements, including regaining the LATAM 787 deal with its Trent 1000 XE engines, reflect growing market confidence in its engine portfolio and the benefits of its ongoing transformation. As competition intensifies, the extended partnership with Saudia underscores Rolls-Royce’s dedication to supporting airline customers through innovation and robust service agreements.
