Owner of British Airways and Iberia goes further and orders 71 new widebodies

IAG Group's Massive Aircraft Orders
IAG Group, the owner of notable airlines such as British Airways and Iberia, has made significant aircraft orders from Airbus and Boeing, surpassing initial expectations. The group has placed orders for a total of 71 jets, which will be delivered over a span of five years between 2028 and 2033.
Detailed Orders:
- Airbus: 21 A330-900s
- Boeing: 32 787-10 Dreamliners
- Additional orders include:
- Six A350-900s for Iberia
- Six A350-1000s for British Airways
- Six 777-9s for British Airways
These additional aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2027 and 2030.
Distribution of Aircraft:
The 787-10s are primarily intended for British Airways. Iberia and Aer Lingus will handle the A330-900s, a model not previously operated by the group. British Airways remains the sole operator of the 787 Dreamliner within the group and holds exclusivity over the 777-9 and A350-1000 models.
Current Fleet and Future Plans:
- Iberia operates the A350-900 and older A330 models.
- Aer Lingus currently has 13 wide-body aircraft, some of which are quite dated.
- British Airways has 24 firm orders for the Boeing 777-9, recognized as the world's largest twin-engine passenger jet, which is still under certification.
- The A350-1000 fleet, presently consisting of 18 aircraft, is set to expand to 24 jets in the upcoming years.
Additionally, IAG has secured options for future aircraft, comprising 10 787s and 13 A330neos.
