Sanad and Rolls-Royce Expand Global Trent 700 Partnership

Sanad and Rolls-Royce Expand Global Trent 700 Partnership
Sanad, a wholly owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Investment Company PJSC, has announced a significant expansion of its longstanding maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) partnership with Rolls-Royce. The announcement was made at the Singapore Air Show 2025, marking a major milestone in their collaboration that began in 2012. Under the new agreement, Sanad will undertake up to 612 Trent 700 engine shop visits through 2031, representing an increase of 277 visits compared to previous commitments.
Strengthening a Decade-Long Collaboration
Over the past decade, Sanad has serviced more than 200 Trent 700 engines for over 25 operators, establishing itself as one of Rolls-Royce’s most trusted independent MRO partners. This expanded agreement solidifies Sanad’s position as the world’s largest independent provider of Trent 700 MRO services and reinforces its role as a critical component of the global support network for this engine model.
The Trent 700 engine powers more than 60% of the global Airbus A330 fleet, with over 1,400 engines currently in active service. Annual maintenance demand for these engines exceeds 250 shop visits. As the aviation industry recovers, operators of the A330 are extending the operational lifespan of their fleets and increasingly converting passenger aircraft into freighters to meet growing logistics demands.
Investment and Capacity Expansion
To support the expanded maintenance programme, Sanad will utilize its Abu Dhabi MRO facilities and test-cell capacity, committing AED125 million (approximately US$34 million) towards advanced tooling, automation, and state-of-the-art machinery. The company also plans to recruit over 300 highly skilled professionals, furthering its Emiratisation and talent development initiatives while enhancing the UAE’s aerospace expertise.
Mansoor Janahi, Managing Director and Group CEO of Sanad, emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating, “This landmark agreement reinforces Rolls-Royce’s confidence in Sanad’s ability to deliver world-class MRO solutions at scale. Over more than a decade of partnership, we’ve proven our commitment to performance, precision, and innovation.” Paul Keenan, Director of Commercial Aviation Aftermarket Operations at Rolls-Royce, added that the increased capacity not only confirms Sanad’s status as the largest independent Trent 700 provider globally but also supports Rolls-Royce’s ambition to substantially grow its global MRO capacity by 2030.
Challenges and Market Outlook
Despite the positive outlook, the expanded partnership faces several challenges. Sanad and Rolls-Royce must maintain a competitive advantage against rivals such as GE Aerospace, ensure sustained demand in key regions including Asia-Pacific, and manage the complexities inherent in global supply chain logistics. Market reactions have been largely favorable, with investor confidence bolstered by Rolls-Royce’s aftermarket network expansion. However, competition is expected to intensify as other players seek to capture greater market share in the Trent engine maintenance sector.
This collaboration represents one of the largest Trent 700 MRO agreements in recent years and highlights Abu Dhabi’s growing prominence as a global hub for aerospace excellence and innovation. It also aligns with the UAE’s national vision to advance high-tech manufacturing, innovation, and sustainability across strategic industries.
