Abu Dhabi Airports to Develop AI-Based Total Airport Management Platform

Abu Dhabi Airports and SITA Collaborate on AI-Driven Airport Management Platform
Abu Dhabi Airports (ADA) has formalized a partnership with SITA, a prominent technology provider in the air transport sector, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop an Intelligent Total Airport Management (iTAM) platform. This AI-powered system is intended to transform airport operations by integrating real-time data, advanced analytics, and autonomous decision-making across the entire aviation ecosystem.
Advancing Airport Operations Through AI Integration
The iTAM platform aims to improve on-time performance, enhance operational efficiency, and provide passengers with more predictable travel experiences. By linking airlines, ground handlers, air traffic control, government agencies, and airport systems via a shared operational data platform, the collaboration seeks to establish a unified source of truth for airport management. Utilizing artificial intelligence and autonomous workflows, the platform will proactively anticipate disruptions, optimize resource allocation, and reinforce safety and reliability standards.
Andrew Murphy, Chief Information Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, underscored the strategic significance of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with SITA advances Abu Dhabi’s vision to be at the forefront of global innovation and digital transformation. By enabling Zayed International Airport to become one of the world’s first truly connected digital airports, and by powering this with iTAM at the core, we are creating a unified operational source of truth that accelerates growth and sets a new global benchmark for smart, seamless journeys.”
Selim Bouri, President of Middle East and Africa at SITA, emphasized the increasing complexity of airport operations: “Airports today operate in an environment that is more complex and interconnected than ever. Every operational decision impacts airlines, passengers, and partners across the airport. By collaborating with Abu Dhabi Airports, we have an opportunity to co-create a smarter way of working—one that uses data and intelligence to make every decision more predictable and efficient.”
Challenges and Industry Implications
As global air traffic continues to grow, airports face escalating pressure to manage tighter operational constraints while meeting rising traveler expectations. The iTAM platform is positioned as a scalable foundation for comprehensive digital airport management and ongoing operational improvement.
Nonetheless, the initiative presents challenges, including the integration of advanced AI technologies with existing airport infrastructure, which will require meticulous planning. Ensuring data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance remains a critical concern. Additionally, aligning multiple stakeholders and legacy systems may introduce further complexities.
Market response to the announcement has been predominantly positive, with the innovative approach expected to enhance investor confidence in Abu Dhabi Airports. Competitors in the industry may accelerate their own AI initiatives or pursue strategic partnerships with technology firms to maintain competitiveness, potentially driving broader digital transformation across the aviation sector.
This agreement marks the commencement of a collaborative effort to pioneer next-generation, AI-enabled airport operations, positioning Abu Dhabi Airports and SITA at the forefront of aviation innovation.
