Boeing reports orders for 11 777Fs in March

Boeing Secures 11 Orders for 777 Freighters in March Amid Market Optimism and Delivery Challenges
Boeing announced a notable surge in orders for its 777 freighter program in March, confirming 11 new aircraft sales. Of these, eight were secured by FedEx, which exercised options as part of its ongoing fleet modernization strategy. The remaining three orders were placed by an undisclosed customer. According to Boeing’s latest Airplane Gross Orders report, FedEx’s deliveries are scheduled with three aircraft arriving in 2026 and five in 2027, reflecting the company’s commitment to updating its cargo fleet with more efficient models.
These recent orders follow two additional 777F sales in January to another unidentified buyer, signaling a strong rebound for Boeing’s 777F program. With 35 orders recorded so far in 2024, the program has already matched the total orders from the entirety of 2023 and equaled the volume seen during the pandemic-driven air cargo boom in 2022. For context, Boeing received 10 orders for the 777F in 2023, 42 in 2021, 13 in 2020, and 17 in 2019. The manufacturer delivered 13 777Fs last year.
Market Drivers and Industry Context
Industry analysts attribute the renewed demand for the 777F to the sustained growth of e-commerce and the increasing need for efficient, long-haul cargo aircraft. Airlines are prioritizing fleet renewal with models that offer improved fuel efficiency and reduced environmental impact. The 777F, with its extended range and substantial payload capacity, remains a preferred choice for carriers aiming to capitalize on these evolving market dynamics.
Despite the encouraging order momentum, Boeing continues to face significant challenges. Persistent supply chain disruptions and intensified competition from Airbus pose risks to the company’s ability to meet delivery schedules. Ensuring timely fulfillment of these orders is particularly critical as Boeing targets delivery of FedEx’s latest batch of freighters by the 2027 deadline.
As the air freight sector experiences a robust recovery, Boeing’s recent order activity highlights both renewed market confidence and the operational pressures manufacturers encounter in a complex global environment.
