FL Technics Indonesia Opens Aircraft Painting Facility in Bali

FL Technics Indonesia Expands MRO Services with New Aircraft Painting Facility in Bali
FL Technics Indonesia, an FAA Part-145 certified maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider, has officially opened a new aircraft painting facility at its Denpasar, Bali site. This development represents a strategic enhancement of the company’s comprehensive MRO capabilities across Southeast Asia, positioning it to better serve the region’s growing aviation market.
Inauguration and Initial Operations
The facility commenced operations in late June 2026, with Skyway Airlines, a Philippine air cargo carrier operating Boeing 737-400F freighters, becoming its inaugural customer. The project involved repainting Skyway’s third aircraft, which was subsequently flown to Clark International Airport in the Philippines for its official unveiling on July 3, 2026. Martynas Grigas, Chairman of FL Technics Indonesia, emphasized that the new dedicated painting booth is integral to the company’s vision of delivering full-service MRO solutions in the region. He noted that several additional painting contracts have already been secured, reflecting strong demand from operators throughout Southeast Asia.
Facility Capabilities and Strategic Importance
The Bali painting booth is equipped to manage complex livery projects with high precision, adhering to rigorous regulatory standards. Its strategic location enables airlines operating within Indonesia and the broader Southeast Asian region to significantly reduce ferry flight times and avoid the logistical challenges and costs associated with overseas maintenance. This localized service minimizes operational downtime, offering a competitive advantage to carriers seeking efficient turnaround times.
The expansion aligns with a broader trend of increasing demand for MRO services in Southeast Asia, driven by extended aircraft delivery backlogs and the growing emphasis on lifecycle extension and fleet maintenance. Livery repainting has become particularly important for airline rebranding efforts, wet-lease transitions, and return-to-service programs. Beyond commercial airlines, the new facility is expected to attract regional business jet operators who require high-quality, localized painting services.
Challenges and Market Impact
Despite the promising outlook, FL Technics Indonesia faces several operational challenges as it scales up its Bali operations. Maintaining compliance with local aviation regulations remains a critical priority, alongside competing with well-established aircraft maintenance providers in the region. The availability of skilled labor is another key factor, with the company currently employing over 700 aviation professionals across its dual-station network in Jakarta and Bali. Both facilities hold more than 20 approvals from various civil aviation authorities, underscoring their commitment to regulatory adherence and quality standards.
Market response to the new painting facility has been largely positive, with increased interest from regional operators and potential for new partnerships with local airlines. This development may prompt competitors in the aircraft maintenance sector to reassess their strategies in order to retain market share as FL Technics Indonesia strengthens its regional presence.
With the launch of the Bali painting booth, FL Technics Indonesia solidifies its position as a leading MRO provider in Southeast Asia, poised to meet the evolving maintenance and operational needs of airlines and operators across the region.
