Unison and Lufthansa Technik sign 15-year CFM LEAP MRO agreement

Unison and Lufthansa Technik Forge 15-Year Partnership for CFM LEAP MRO Services
GE Aerospace subsidiary Unison has entered into a 15-year agreement with Lufthansa Technik to enhance aftermarket support for CFM LEAP-powered aircraft fleets. This strategic partnership designates Lufthansa Technik as the exclusive Unison-authorised provider of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the ignition systems of CFM International’s LEAP-1A, LEAP-1B, and LEAP-1C engines across Europe.
Expanding Aftermarket Support in Europe
Under the terms of the agreement, Lufthansa Technik will perform MRO services for key ignition system components, including exciters and leads, at its component repair facilities in Hamburg, Germany. Unison will supply genuine original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts and provide the necessary technical data to support these operations. Additionally, Lufthansa Technik will be authorised to administer warranties for components serviced at its facility, ensuring comprehensive support for operators.
This collaboration significantly broadens Unison’s aftermarket network in the European region, offering operators of LEAP engines a unique OEM-authorised option for ignition system maintenance. Despite the partnership, both companies will maintain their independent operations and continue to compete globally for repair and overhaul contracts.
Leadership Perspectives on the Partnership
Kranthi Tata, President and CEO of Unison, emphasized the importance of the agreement in reinforcing the aftermarket network relied upon by customers for dependable and responsive fleet support. He noted that the collaboration with Lufthansa Technik strengthens regional MRO capabilities for LEAP ignition systems, thereby expanding service options available to European operators.
Henning Linnekogel, Senior Director of OEM Partner Management at Lufthansa Technik, highlighted the company’s extensive experience spanning over five decades in aircraft ignition systems across major platforms. He described the partnership as an ideal alignment, combining Lufthansa Technik’s repair expertise and passion for parts with Unison’s product line to deliver enhanced service quality.
This long-term agreement marks a significant step in advancing the support infrastructure for CFM LEAP engine operators in Europe, reflecting both companies’ commitment to reliability and technical excellence in the aerospace aftermarket sector.
