Lufthansa Technik Philippines Fosters Inclusive Culture in Aircraft Maintenance
MANILA, Philippines, October 27, 2025 – Lufthansa Technik Philippines is reshaping the traditionally male-dominated field of aircraft maintenance by embedding diversity and inclusion at the core of its operations. As the company marks its 25th anniversary, it highlights a workforce where success is driven by talent and dedication rather than gender.
Advancing Diversity in Technical and Leadership Roles
As a prominent provider of aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services, Lufthansa Technik Philippines has made significant strides in increasing female representation across both technical and leadership positions. Currently, 260 women hold technical roles, while 50 occupy leadership posts ranging from team leaders to senior vice presidents. Although women constitute 11% of the workforce, this figure is steadily growing, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to dismantling traditional barriers within the MRO sector.
This transformation is not motivated by quota fulfillment but by fostering an environment where passion for aviation and a commitment to excellence are the sole criteria for advancement. Holger Beck, President and CEO of Lufthansa Technik Philippines, emphasized that diversity is a vital source of strength. He noted, “When people of different backgrounds, skills, and perspectives come together, innovation thrives. That is how we remain competitive in the global MRO industry while creating an environment where every individual can succeed.”
Cultivating an Inclusive and Merit-Based Culture
The company’s inclusive culture is grounded in fairness and equal opportunity. Recruitment and career development are strictly merit-based, supported by outreach programs that engage diverse communities through partnerships with educational institutions. This strategy ensures a continuous influx of talent from across the Philippines.
Among the company’s notable leaders are women such as Mylene, the sole female among ten bay managers, who oversees daily operations and leads a team of over 100 engineers and technicians. Beginning her career as an avionics mechanic, she has ascended to a pivotal technical leadership role. Similarly, Lucila started as an engineer and now manages a division responsible for large-scale base maintenance operations. Their successes exemplify the multiple pathways available for women in technical fields at Lufthansa Technik Philippines and serve as an inspiration for future generations.
Navigating Challenges Amid Industry Evolution
Despite these advances, fostering an inclusive culture presents ongoing challenges. Integrating diverse teams within a highly competitive market, adapting to evolving regulatory standards, and maintaining operational efficiency amid rapid technological change require continuous effort. The company’s initiatives also face heightened scrutiny from stakeholders, while competitors may respond by enhancing their own diversity programs or investing in advanced technologies to sustain competitiveness.
These efforts align with Lufthansa’s broader strategic goals, which include achieving €200 million in annual savings through digitalization and restructuring. Such measures are transforming the competitive dynamics of the MRO sector, underscoring the critical role of both innovation and inclusivity.
Beck expressed pride in the progress made, stating, “What makes me proud is seeing our women technicians and engineers thrive in roles once considered out of reach. Their achievements prove that when given the opportunity, anyone can excel in this industry.”
Lufthansa Technik Philippines’ dedication to diversity and inclusion is not only transforming its own workforce but also setting a new benchmark for the aviation maintenance industry in the Philippines and beyond.
