Bombardier Expands Asia-Pacific Service Hub in Singapore with S$100 Million Investment

Bombardier Expands Asia-Pacific Service Hub in Singapore with S$100 Million Investment
Bombardier is set to significantly enhance its footprint in Singapore through a S$100 million expansion of its Asia-Pacific service centre, reinforcing the city-state’s position as a premier hub for business aviation. The Canadian business jet manufacturer plans to build a new 250,000-square-foot maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at JTC’s Seletar Aerospace Park. Upon completion, this will become the largest business aviation service centre in the world.
Strategic Expansion Amid Rising Demand
This expansion responds to a surge in demand for Bombardier’s jets, including the Global 8000, and aligns with the company’s broader strategy to grow its global services business. Paul Sislian, executive vice-president for aircraft sales and aftermarket services, highlighted a 60 percent increase in business jet utilisation worldwide since 2019. He noted that the Asia-Pacific region is experiencing heightened activity, with more aircraft deliveries and a growing number of family offices relocating to Singapore, all seeking enhanced service capabilities.
Currently, Bombardier’s Singapore hub supports maintenance for approximately 2,000 aircraft annually. The new facility is expected to double this capacity, reflecting the Asia-Pacific region’s contribution of around 8 percent to the company’s overall business. The expansion will also generate over 200 new highly skilled jobs, supplementing the existing workforce of about 300 employees.
Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling emphasized that the project “cements Singapore’s place” as the centre of Bombardier’s Asia-Pacific operations. Supported by JTC and the Singapore Economic Development Board, construction is slated to begin in the latter half of this year, with operations anticipated to commence by the second half of 2028.
Comprehensive Services and Innovation Partnerships
The expanded facility will provide a full range of services, including maintenance, modifications, avionics installation, 24/7 emergency support, painting, interior finishing, and a component repair and overhaul workshop. Customer amenities will feature a dedicated lounge and crew rest area, enhancing the overall service experience.
In addition to physical expansion, Bombardier has joined the Agency for Science, Technology and Research’s Advanced Remanufacturing Technology Centre industry consortium as an anchor member. This partnership aims to leverage Singapore’s research and development ecosystem to advance next-generation MRO technologies. The focus will be on digitalisation, automation, and artificial intelligence to improve operational safety, efficiency, and reliability.
While the expansion underscores Bombardier’s strong commitment to the Asia-Pacific market, the company faces challenges such as maintaining operational efficiency amid rising demand, navigating complex aviation regulations, and competing with other regional service providers. Market responses have been largely positive, reflecting investor confidence in Bombardier’s growth trajectory. Nonetheless, competitors may respond with their own expansions or strategic alliances to strengthen their presence and service capabilities in the region.
Bombardier’s latest investment highlights the increasing demand for business aviation in Asia-Pacific and affirms Singapore’s critical role in the sector’s ongoing development.
