Lorenza Maggio Appointed CEO of Brussels Airlines

Lorenza Maggio Named CEO of Brussels Airlines
The Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa has announced the appointment of Lorenza Maggio as the incoming Chief Executive Officer of Brussels Airlines, subject to approval by the Board of Directors of SN Airholding. Maggio will also assume the role of Executive Board Representative to the European Commission. She is set to succeed Dorothea von Boxberg, who will leave the company at her own request on August 31, 2026. The precise timing of Maggio’s relocation from Rome to Brussels remains to be confirmed.
Extensive Aviation Experience
An Italian national, Lorenza Maggio brings a wealth of experience within the aviation industry. Since January 2025, she has served as Chief Strategy and Integration Officer on the Board of Directors of ITA Airways. In this capacity, she played a central role in integrating ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group and guiding its strategic development. Her previous positions include Vice President Sales for the Lufthansa Group’s network airlines across Europe (excluding home markets), the Middle East, and Africa. Additionally, she has led brand and customer strategy at Eurowings and held the position of managing director at a subsidiary of the LSG Group.
Challenges and Strategic Outlook
Maggio’s appointment arrives at a pivotal moment for Brussels Airlines and the wider European aviation sector. She will be tasked with addressing significant challenges such as ongoing industry consolidation, escalating operating costs, and geopolitical uncertainties that continue to affect the market. Her demonstrated leadership, particularly in the successful integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group, is anticipated to reinforce investor confidence in Brussels Airlines’ strategic direction.
Industry analysts suggest that Maggio’s strategic acumen may compel competitors to reevaluate their market strategies amid accelerating consolidation across Europe. The aviation community will be closely observing how she applies her expertise to fortify Brussels Airlines’ position in this evolving landscape.
