Rotortrade and SKYTRAC Announce Technical Partnership
Strategic Collaboration to Enhance Helicopter Avionics Services
Rotortrade and SKYTRAC Systems have formalized a strategic technical partnership designed to strengthen helicopter support and avionics services across Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. As part of this agreement, Rotortrade’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities located in Tallard (France), Latrobe (Pennsylvania, USA), and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) will be designated as authorised SKYTRAC Service Centers. These centers will provide certified installation services, maintain regional inventory, and act as authorised resellers of SKYTRAC’s avionics products.
This collaboration authorizes Rotortrade to distribute SKYTRAC’s broadband and narrowband satellite communication terminals and associated components. Installations will be conducted at Rotortrade’s EASA and FAA Part 145-certified facilities, strictly following SKYTRAC-approved Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) and installation protocols to ensure full compliance with relevant aviation regulatory standards.
To ensure operational continuity for helicopter operators, the designated sites in Tallard, Latrobe, and Riyadh will function as regional hubs for new equipment and critical AOG (Aircraft on Ground) spare parts. This arrangement aims to facilitate rapid dispatch and minimize aircraft downtime. While SKYTRAC will retain responsibility for component-level repairs, Rotortrade will manage logistics, local integration, and customer support services.
Joint Development and Future Initiatives
The partnership also includes a Letter of Intent to collaboratively develop the initial STC for SKYTRAC’s next-generation SDL broadband satellite communication system. Rotortrade will identify appropriate helicopter platforms, provide aircraft access, and conduct prototype installations at its maintenance centers to support testing activities. SKYTRAC will lead system engineering, certification development, and regulatory engagement. Following certification, Rotortrade will serve as the authorised installation center and reseller for the approved platforms within its operational regions.
Despite the strategic benefits, both companies may encounter challenges related to market competition, the integration of emerging technologies, and potential regulatory obstacles. The broader economic environment of the aviation sector and shifting consumer demands will also influence the partnership’s trajectory. Market responses may include heightened scrutiny from competitors and stakeholders, with rival firms potentially accelerating their own technological advancements or enhancing existing offerings to maintain market position.
Rotortrade’s Expansion in the U.S. EMS Market
In a related development, Rotortrade has completed the sale of two 2023 Airbus H145 D3 helicopters to Life Flight Network, a prominent U.S. not-for-profit air medical operator. These helicopters, configured for emergency medical services (EMS) missions with Air Ambulance Technology interiors, are equipped for scene response, over-water interfacility transport, and night vision goggle (NVG) operations. This transaction represents Rotortrade’s largest to date in the U.S. market and marks a significant entry into the competitive U.S. EMS segment.
Negotiations for the sale commenced in September 2025, culminating in a finalized agreement on December 30, 2025. The helicopters arrived at Rotortrade’s Latrobe MRO facility in early 2026 for import processing and will undergo further customization before entering operational service in September 2026.
Philippe Lubrano, CEO of Rotortrade, described the transaction as a major milestone, emphasizing the company’s ability to penetrate the U.S. EMS market through disciplined execution, strong partnerships, and comprehensive lifecycle support. He highlighted the strategic importance of Rotortrade’s MRO platforms, particularly Latrobe, noting that the company is evolving beyond transaction facilitation to delivering integrated solutions that combine sales with technical oversight.
