Vertical Aerospace Secures Grant to Enhance Emergency Medical Services in Singapore
Vertical Aerospace [NYSE:EVTL], a prominent player in electric aviation, has been awarded a Proof-of-Concept (POC) grant by Hatch, the innovation centre of Singapore’s Home Team Science & Technology Agency (HTX). This grant, part of the “Dimension X Cohort 7 Challenge,” will support the development, testing, and validation of an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) application for Vertical’s Valo electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The initiative aims to improve time-critical medical response capabilities for Singapore’s remote island communities.
Collaborative Development and Testing
Under the programme, Vertical Aerospace will work closely with HTX, Hatch, and key operational stakeholders to develop a comprehensive EMS concept of operations (ConOps) that aligns with practical operational and regulatory requirements. The project will also evaluate various medical cabin configurations to optimize patient transport and in-flight care. A proof-of-concept flight demonstration is planned to assess the feasibility, safety, and response times of the Valo aircraft in emergency scenarios.
Scheduled to run through April 2026, the project involves close cooperation with the Singapore Home Team to explore how eVTOL and VTOL aircraft can complement existing emergency response systems. The goal is to enhance patient outcomes in critical situations by integrating advanced air mobility solutions. Vertical Aerospace was selected following a competitive process, with the Valo aircraft’s safety-first design, operational flexibility, and credible certification strategy cited as decisive factors.
Strategic Significance and Industry Context
This initiative represents a significant step toward incorporating Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) technologies into Singapore’s public safety infrastructure. It aligns with broader national efforts led by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and supported by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to develop the AAM industry, facilitate the safe introduction of next-generation aircraft, and expand the local aerospace ecosystem.
Despite the promising outlook, Vertical Aerospace faces several challenges. The AAM sector is rapidly evolving and subject to complex regulatory frameworks. Substantial investment in infrastructure will be necessary to support widespread eVTOL operations. Furthermore, competition in the Asia-Pacific market is intensifying, with established aerospace companies such as Bell and Airbus Helicopters also pursuing opportunities in Singapore. These dynamics are likely to increase investor interest and accelerate competitive partnerships and contract bids as Singapore positions itself as a regional hub for aerospace innovation.

As the project advances, its findings may influence the future of emergency medical services in Singapore and contribute to the broader adoption of AAM technologies across the region.
