Air Canada Orders Eight A350-1000 Jets to Expand Long-Haul Fleet

Air Canada Confirms Order for Eight Airbus A350-1000 Jets
Air Canada has officially placed a firm order for eight Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, signaling a major enhancement to its long-haul fleet and reaffirming its commitment to Airbus wide-body planes. This order, initially recorded as undisclosed in November 2025, represents a strategic move to leverage the A350-1000’s superior operating economics and reduced unit costs, which are expected to provide the airline with a distinct competitive advantage in the global aviation market.
Strategic Expansion and Operational Efficiency
The Airbus A350-1000, renowned for its industry-leading range of up to 9,000 nautical miles, will support Air Canada’s ambitions for global expansion by enabling non-stop flights from Canada to rapidly growing markets in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia. Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, as well as President of Cargo at Air Canada, emphasized the aircraft’s role in the airline’s future. He described the A350-1000 as a natural progression in the evolution of Air Canada’s fleet, highlighting its state-of-the-art capabilities and enhanced efficiency as key factors in unlocking new long-haul opportunities worldwide. Galardo further noted that the aircraft, adorned with the iconic Maple Leaf, will be central to connecting Air Canada’s customers, hubs, and the country to the broader world.
Advanced Technology and Environmental Benefits
The A350-1000 incorporates cutting-edge technologies and aerodynamic design features that set new standards for efficiency and passenger comfort. Equipped with the latest-generation Rolls-Royce engines and constructed from lightweight materials, the aircraft achieves a 25 percent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared to previous-generation competitor models. This combination of performance and sustainability aligns with Air Canada’s goals to modernize its fleet while minimizing environmental impact.
