GKN Aerospace has revealed its latest uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) demonstrator alongside a dedicated turbojet engine, marking a pivotal advancement in its partnership with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). The unveiling occurred at The Armed Forces Air Venture 2026, an event that also celebrated the centenary of the Swedish Air Force. The showcase featured a full-scale UAV mock-up accompanied by the purpose-built turbojet engine developed specifically for this initiative.
Collaborative Development and Technological Innovation
The program commenced in November 2025 when FMV awarded GKN Aerospace an 18-month contract to deliver a clean-sheet UAV demonstrator and a bespoke engine. Joakim Andersson, President of Engines at GKN Aerospace, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “One year ago, this was an idea and an ambition. Today, we are unveiling the first tangible result of that work.” He highlighted the close collaboration with FMV, the Swedish Armed Forces, and the combined expertise of teams across Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
The development effort has leveraged GKN Aerospace’s extensive capabilities in propulsion, aerostructures, and systems integration. The demonstrator serves as a flexible platform designed for testing and evaluation, aimed at advancing future uncrewed aviation technologies. It also provides critical experience in the rapid development, integration, and manufacturing of complex aerospace systems.
