Saudi Pilatus Fleet Reaches 100,000 Flight Hours Powered by Pratt & Whitney Engines

Saudi Pilatus Fleet Achieves 100,000 Flight Hours with Pratt & Whitney Engines
Pratt & Whitney Canada, a division of RTX, has announced a significant milestone for the Royal Saudi Air Force’s Pilatus PC-21 fleet, which has now accumulated 100,000 flight hours powered by the company’s PT6A engines. The PC-21 aircraft serve as a cornerstone for advanced pilot and aircrew training within Saudi Arabia’s military, with the service currently operating 54 of these platforms.
Performance and Capabilities of the PC-21
The PT6A engine installed in the PC-21 delivers approximately 1,600 horsepower, enabling the aircraft to reach a top speed of 370 knots (426 miles per hour or 685 kilometers per hour). The PC-21 boasts a range of 720 nautical miles (828 miles or 1,333 kilometers) and can operate at altitudes up to 37,990 feet (11,579 meters). These performance characteristics make the PC-21 a highly capable training platform, well-suited to the rigorous demands of military pilot preparation.
Strategic Importance and Support Services
Pratt & Whitney Canada emphasized that this milestone underscores the enduring role of the PT6 engine family in international combat, training, and general aviation missions. The company is actively expanding its footprint in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East through domestic partnerships and enhanced regional service support. Beyond supplying engines, Pratt & Whitney Canada provides comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul services, alongside technical and customer support, to ensure the operational readiness of its fleet partners.
Anthony Rossi, vice president of customer service at Pratt & Whitney Canada, highlighted the engine’s legacy, stating, “The PT6A engine has powered commercial and defense aircraft around the world for decades, offering customers versatility and reliable performance.” He further noted the critical role of the Pilatus PC-21 in advanced military pilot training and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the Royal Saudi Air Force fleet to maintain safe, reliable, and mission-ready operations.
