Brian Harms Appointed Engine Overhaul Manager for Duncan Aviation’s Pratt & Whitney Programs
Duncan Aviation has announced the appointment of Brian Harms as Engine Overhaul Manager for its Pratt & Whitney Canada Designated Overhaul Facility. This strategic move underscores the company’s commitment to strengthening its position in the competitive engine maintenance market. In his new role, Harms will oversee overhaul operations for the PW500 and PW300 engine series, spearheading initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, uphold consistent quality standards, and ensure transparent communication with customers.
Expansion of Facilities and Operational Capabilities
Harms’ appointment coincides with the completion of Duncan Aviation’s new Designated Overhaul Facility, a state-of-the-art 36,000-square-foot space dedicated to hot-section and overhaul work for PW500 and PW300A/C engines. The facility is equipped with a 20,000-pound thrust class engine test cell and control room, significantly expanding the company’s service capabilities and capacity to meet growing demand.
Extensive Experience and Leadership
Bringing over three decades of aviation maintenance expertise, Harms has held key leadership roles, including managing Honeywell engine overhaul projects at Duncan Aviation and leading Pratt & Whitney overhaul teams. His experience also extends to GE-T58 engine overhaul work for the U.S. Marine Corps. In his new capacity, Harms will focus on refining shop processes to improve efficiency and address the skills gap among emerging aviation maintenance technicians.
Scott Stoki, Vice President of Engine Services at Duncan Aviation, highlighted Harms’ practical knowledge and customer-centric approach, stating, “Brian understands what matters most to customers—consistent quality, reliable turnaround times, and honest communication throughout the overhaul process. He’s built his career doing the work himself and leading technicians through complex engine projects. That experience gives him the perspective to build processes that keep engines moving efficiently through the shop while maintaining the high standards our customers expect.”
Harms articulated his vision for the program, emphasizing reliability and technician development: “Our goal is to build a program that customers can rely on every time. That means developing clear processes, supporting our technicians as they grow, and making sure every engine reaches the test cell ready to run without issue. When we do that well, it saves customers time and gives them confidence in the work we’ve done.”
Navigating a Competitive and Evolving Market
Harms’ appointment arrives amid intensified competition and shifting dynamics within the engine maintenance sector. Duncan Aviation’s focus on Pratt & Whitney engines places it in direct competition with firms such as Pilatus Aircraft, which recently expanded its service network through the acquisition of Air Alliance to support PC-12 and PC-24 aircraft. The broader market is also contending with challenges stemming from ongoing tensions between Airbus and Pratt & Whitney over engine delays, which have exacerbated supply chain and production issues industry-wide.
In response to these pressures, competitors are increasingly pursuing exclusive contracts and strategic partnerships to safeguard market share, particularly as Pratt & Whitney Canada and Collins Aerospace advance developments in hybrid-electric propulsion systems. Against this backdrop, Duncan Aviation’s investment in its overhaul facility and leadership under Harms is positioned to reinforce the company’s reputation for quality and reliability in a rapidly evolving industry landscape.
