EPC Aviation Receives Kenya’s First ELITE PI-1000 Professional AATD
A New Era in Kenyan Aviation Training
Kenya’s aviation training sector has marked a significant advancement with EPC Aviation Ltd, a newly established Flight Training Organisation (FTO), acquiring the country’s first ELITE PI-1000 FAA-certified Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD). This cutting-edge flight simulator has been installed at the Kenya School of Flying Headquarters at Nairobi Wilson Airport and is expected to raise the standards of professional pilot training across the region.
The ELITE PI-1000 is a sophisticated, G1000-based simulator designed to replicate both Single Engine Piston (SEP) and Multi-Engine Piston (MEP) aircraft. It caters to the comprehensive needs of modern pilot instruction, supporting structured, scenario-based training from initial ab-initio stages through to advanced and recurrent levels. The integration of ForeFlight technology further enhances the training experience by covering critical areas such as navigation, communications, systems monitoring, autopilot management, and emergency procedures—skills that benefit greatly from realistic simulation environments.
Strategic Growth and Industry Context
EPC Aviation’s acquisition of the ELITE PI-1000 represents the first phase of its broader vision to develop Kenya’s largest and most comprehensive flight training hub. The company has announced intentions to expand its simulator offerings in response to increasing regional demand for high-quality, standardized flight training. Collaboration with the Kenyan Civil Aviation Authorities has been instrumental in launching the new training centre at Wilson Airport, ensuring full regulatory compliance and support.
René Huddlestone, Director of Marketing & Sales at ELITE Simulation Solutions, expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting the company’s commitment to supporting EPC Aviation’s future simulator projects. Walter Zünd, CEO of EPC Aviation Ltd, emphasized the importance of working with a leading simulator provider, noting that ELITE Simulation Solutions was the natural choice to help establish organized flight training based on EASA-approved syllabi from Europe.
Despite these promising developments, EPC Aviation faces a competitive environment. Established players in the business aviation market, such as Textron Aviation—which recently introduced its Citation M2 Gen2 and CJ3 Gen2 models—present significant competition. Industry analysts suggest that EPC Aviation’s pricing and service offerings will come under close scrutiny as competitors may accelerate their adoption of advanced training technologies to maintain market share. The broader business aviation sector is also contending with evolving market demands and rapid technological progress, factors that could influence EPC Aviation’s strategic positioning and growth prospects.
Nonetheless, EPC Aviation’s investment in advanced simulation technology and strategic partnerships positions the company as a key contributor to the future of pilot training in East Africa. Its efforts aim to establish new benchmarks for quality, safety, and standardization within the region’s aviation training industry.
