flydubai to Receive 12 New Aircraft in 2025 to Support Growth
flydubai is poised to receive 12 new aircraft in 2025, a critical component of the airline’s strategic expansion plans. These additions will facilitate the continued growth of its route network, improve operational efficiency, and increase capacity on existing services. Seven of the new aircraft are scheduled for delivery between April and August 2025, which will bring the fleet size to 93. Upon completion of all 12 deliveries, flydubai’s fleet will surpass 95 aircraft, underpinning the carrier’s expanding network that now covers more than 135 destinations across 57 countries.
Strategic Expansion and Market Implications
This fleet expansion is expected to open access to underserved markets, create additional travel opportunities, and further cement Dubai’s status as a major global aviation hub. However, the rapid growth also introduces operational challenges, including managing increased capacity, ensuring comprehensive training for new crew members, and maintaining competitive pricing amid scaling efforts. The market response may involve intensified competition from regional carriers such as Air Arabia, which is also expanding its fleet. Competitors are likely to adjust their route networks, pricing strategies, and service offerings to safeguard their market positions.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the significance of the new deliveries, stating, “The arrival of these new aircraft is a testament to our long-term strategic vision and our confidence in the future of air travel. Our fleet investment supports our mission to offer greater choice, enhanced convenience, and improved connectivity for our passengers.” He noted that the deliveries are part of a backlog that has been extensively delayed in recent years, adding, “Despite receiving 12 aircraft this year, we remain 20 aircraft behind our original projections.”
Al Ghaith further highlighted the strong support from financing partners, saying, “The continued interest from our financing partners highlights the strength of our business model and our commitment to contributing to the UAE’s leadership in global aviation. Looking ahead, these aircraft will enable us to unlock new destinations, optimise our operations, and play an even greater role in supporting Dubai’s growth as an international aviation hub.”
Financing and Network Development
flydubai’s ability to secure competitive financing for the new aircraft reflects robust confidence from global financial institutions and lessors in the airline’s business model and future prospects. Financing for the first seven aircraft has been arranged through a combination of Islamic financing from Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), conventional debt financing from The National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah (RAKBANK), and sale and leaseback agreements with JP Lease Products & Services and JLPS Ireland Limited.
Alongside fleet growth, flydubai continues to expand its network, having introduced 11 new destinations this year, including Antalya, Al Alamein, Damascus, and Peshawar. The airline is also preparing to launch four new European routes—Chișinău and Iași in September, followed by Vilnius and Riga in December—further enhancing its regional presence and offering passengers increased travel options.
Enhancing Customer Experience
In parallel with its fleet expansion, flydubai is investing significantly in customer experience and innovation. Since early 2024, 23 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft have undergone comprehensive cabin retrofits as part of a multimillion-dollar programme set to continue through 2026. The upgraded interiors feature lie-flat Business Class seats and enhanced inflight entertainment systems in Economy, ensuring a consistent and elevated travel experience across the fleet.
