ST Engineering Secures Multi-Year LEAP-1A Maintenance Contract with Air Cairo
ST Engineering’s commercial aerospace division has secured a five-year maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) contract with Air Cairo to support the LEAP-1A engines powering the airline’s Airbus A320neo fleet. The agreement entails providing quick-turn repair and Performance Restoration Shop Visit (PRSV) services at ST Engineering’s engine MRO facility in Singapore. The first engine under this contract is scheduled for induction in mid-2025.
Partnership Highlights and Strategic Importance
Air Cairo’s Chairman and CEO, Captain Ahmed Shanan, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, emphasizing ST Engineering’s global reputation as a leader in engine overhaul. He highlighted that the contract reflects Air Cairo’s commitment to operational excellence, reliability, and stringent safety standards for its expanding fleet. As the airline continues to grow its network and modernize operations, Captain Shanan noted that having a trusted and experienced MRO provider like ST Engineering is crucial to ensuring world-class engine maintenance, reducing downtime, and optimizing performance.
Captain Shanan further remarked that this collaboration is integral to Air Cairo’s mission of delivering seamless and efficient air travel across the region. He anticipates a long and successful partnership that will strengthen the airline’s fleet capabilities and enhance its service offerings amid a competitive aviation market.
ST Engineering’s Expanding Role in the Middle East
Tay Eng Guan, Head of Engine Services at ST Engineering, described the contract as a testament to the company’s growing reputation as a premier MRO provider for LEAP engines. He noted that the agreement marks a significant milestone in expanding ST Engineering’s support for Middle Eastern operators. The company is actively increasing its LEAP engine MRO capacity and parts repair capabilities to meet rising maintenance demands.
ST Engineering holds the distinction of being the first independent MRO provider in Asia designated as a Premier MRO provider within CFM International’s LEAP open MRO ecosystem. In 2024, the company achieved testing capabilities for both LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines at its Singapore facility. It is currently expanding its services to include PRSV and full MRO offerings, positioning itself to better support airlines operating LEAP engines in the region and beyond.
