ST Engineering and Air Cairo Sign MRO Contract for LEAP-1A Engines
New Five-Year Agreement for Engine Maintenance
ST Engineering’s Commercial Aerospace division has secured a significant five-year maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) contract with Air Cairo, marking the Egyptian airline as a new client. The agreement focuses on providing comprehensive support for the LEAP-1A engines that power Air Cairo’s Airbus A320neo fleet. Under the terms of the contract, ST Engineering will perform quick-turn repairs and Performance Restoration Shop Visit (PRSV) services at its engine MRO facility in Singapore. The first engine is scheduled for induction into maintenance in mid-2025.
Strategic Partnership and Industry Confidence
Captain Ahmed Shanan, Chairman and CEO of Air Cairo, expressed strong support for the partnership, emphasizing ST Engineering’s global reputation in engine overhaul services. He highlighted that the collaboration aligns with Air Cairo’s commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, operational reliability, and overall excellence as the airline continues to expand its network and modernize its fleet.
From ST Engineering’s perspective, Tay Eng Guan, Head of Engine Services, noted that the contract reflects growing industry confidence in the company’s capabilities as a Premier MRO provider for LEAP engines. He also underscored the strategic importance of enhancing support for Middle Eastern operators amid rising demand for LEAP engine maintenance.
Milestones in MRO Capabilities and Expansion
ST Engineering was the first independent MRO provider in Asia to be designated a Premier MRO partner within CFM International’s LEAP open MRO network. In 2024, the company established testing capabilities for both LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines at its Singapore facility. Building on this foundation, ST Engineering is now expanding its services to include PRSV and full MRO offerings to meet the increasing global demand from airlines operating LEAP engines.
