ANA Holdings Orders Eight More Embraer E190-E2 Jets

ANA Holdings Expands Fleet with Additional Embraer E190-E2 Jets
Embraer and ANA Holdings (ANA HD) have formalized an agreement for the acquisition of eight additional E190-E2 aircraft, advancing the Japanese airline group’s fleet expansion strategy initially announced in July 2026. This new order supplements ANA HD’s original firm commitment of 15 E190-E2 jets placed in 2025, increasing the total firm orders for the type to 23 aircraft. The airline also retains options for five more units, underscoring its long-term commitment to the Embraer E2 family.
Strategic Investment Amid Industry Challenges
The decision to expand the E190-E2 fleet comes at a time when the Asia-Pacific aviation sector is grappling with rising fuel costs, which have contributed to a downturn in regional passenger traffic. Despite these headwinds, ANA Holdings reported only a modest decline in first-quarter earnings, noting that the adverse effects of elevated fuel prices on demand were “far more limited than anticipated.”
Koji Shibata, President and CEO of ANA Holdings, highlighted the strategic significance of the new order, stating, “This additional E190-E2 order accelerates our efforts to build a sustainable regional aviation network in Japan. It also underscores our confidence in Embraer’s technology to reduce both environmental impact and operating costs. We are excited to deepen our partnership, elevating regional connectivity and delivering a superior passenger experience across Japan.”
The E190-E2: Efficiency and Versatility
The E190-E2 is a member of Embraer’s next-generation E-Jets E2 family, renowned for its fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and reduced noise footprint. Its design versatility enables airlines to serve both established and emerging markets effectively, enhancing connectivity while improving passenger comfort.
Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, welcomed ANA HD’s continued endorsement of the E2 program, emphasizing the aircraft’s operational benefits. “With its exceptional economics and fuel efficiency, the E2 will support expanded connectivity across Japan along with better comfort and space for passengers,” he remarked.
Embraer’s Strong Market Position
This latest order coincides with Embraer’s robust financial performance, marked by a 25% increase in second-quarter net profit and an upward revision of its financial guidance. The company’s Defense & Security division has contributed significantly to these results, alongside record revenue for the quarter. The E190-E2 program continues to broaden its global presence, highlighted by the recent delivery of Embraer’s 2,000th E-Jet—a milestone for the aircraft family—and new commitments from airlines worldwide.
ANA Holdings’ expanded order reflects confidence not only in Embraer’s technological advancements but also in the resilience and growth potential of Japan’s regional aviation market amid ongoing industry challenges.
