Blade Urban Air Mobility Named Official Air Partner for 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black
Blade Urban Air Mobility, a division of Joby Aviation (NYSE: JOBY), has been appointed the Official Air Mobility Partner for the 2025 Ryder Cup, scheduled from September 25 to 28 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York. This partnership represents a major logistical endeavor, as Blade prepares to manage one of the largest multi-day civilian helicopter operations ever conducted for a sporting event in the United States.
Extensive Air Transport Operations and Infrastructure
Over the course of the four-day tournament, Blade anticipates transporting approximately 3,000 passengers between its Manhattan lounges, surrounding New York areas, the on-course Blade Vertiport at Bethpage, and the nearby Republic Airport. The dedicated Ryder Cup Vertiport will feature 15 landing zones at Bethpage Red, complemented by an amphibious seaplane landing zone at Republic Airport. Passengers will benefit from direct access to the championship grounds via Blade’s on-course lounge, which offers amenities including a dedicated bar serving Ryder Cup-themed cocktails, a golf simulator, and exclusive viewing areas.
The 2025 Ryder Cup will involve the largest infrastructure buildout in the history of the PGA of America, with over 1.7 million square feet constructed specifically for the event. The scale of this development, combined with the expected presence of a large and enthusiastic American crowd and high-profile attendees such as former President Donald Trump, adds layers of complexity to Blade’s operational responsibilities. The company faces significant pressure to provide seamless and reliable service amid the logistical and regulatory challenges inherent in urban air mobility.
Showcasing the Future of Air Travel
Blade’s involvement will also serve as a platform to demonstrate advancements in air travel technology. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience Joby Aviation’s next-generation all-electric, emission-free air taxi, both through static displays and an augmented reality flight simulator. This initiative underscores the industry’s shift from traditional helicopters to quieter, more sustainable electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
Christiana Weller, Vice President of Marketing at Blade, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “Given the significant strain on ground infrastructure during major PGA events, offering Blade service to Ryder Cup attendees enables us to demonstrate the power of urban air mobility. We are also proud to showcase our parent company’s next-generation quiet and emission-free aircraft that we hope guests will fly on during the next U.S. Ryder Cup in 2029.”
John Handley, Director of Partnerships & Championship Sales at the PGA, added, “Blade is helping make travel to the Ryder Cup faster, seamless, and more enjoyable for our guests. Together, we are committed to providing a world-class experience.”
Industry Implications and Future Prospects
Blade’s prominent role at the Ryder Cup is expected to attract considerable attention from both the market and competitors. Industry observers will closely monitor whether Blade can meet the high expectations set for this event, particularly given the technological and regulatory challenges facing urban air mobility. Rival companies may view Blade’s performance as a benchmark, potentially positioning themselves for future partnerships with major sporting events.
As the 2025 Ryder Cup approaches, Blade’s ability to deliver on its commitments will be under scrutiny, with the outcome likely to influence the future of air mobility partnerships at large-scale international events.
