Board Welcomes Aviation Educator Brian Stanford; Manager Reports on Fuel Resupply and Maintenance Inspections

Cleveland Airport Board Appoints Aviation Educator Brian Stanford
CLEVELAND, Texas — The Cleveland Airport Advisory Board has appointed Brian Stanford, an experienced aviation educator, as its newest member during the meeting held on January 6. Stanford’s addition is viewed as a strategic effort to enhance the board’s expertise amid a rapidly evolving and competitive aviation environment. Beginning his aviation career at the age of 14, Stanford served four years in the Air Force as a turbine engine mechanic before transitioning to education. He currently leads the aviation engineering program at Cleveland High School. Board members acknowledged the recent approval of his appointment by the city council and expressed confidence in the valuable knowledge he brings to the board.
Operational Updates and Maintenance Initiatives
Airport manager Eric Galindo provided a comprehensive update on airport operations, reporting the recent delivery of 8,000 gallons of 100LL aviation fuel. He reminded tenants of the importance of timely payment for hangar-rate invoices, which are due by the 10th of each month to avoid late fees. Current fuel prices stand at $4.25 per gallon for 100LL and $3.55 for Jet A. Galindo emphasized that with the fuel resupply, the airport is fully prepared to accommodate incoming traffic, highlighting the critical need for operational efficiency as airports nationwide contend with challenges such as supply chain disruptions and regulatory compliance.
The board also discussed ongoing concerns regarding a hangar relocated from Williams Airport, focusing on the responsibility for fees and associated costs. Although the individual responsible for the relocation was not present, board members noted that a meeting with city staff had been conducted to clarify the matter.
In addressing maintenance requirements, Galindo announced the initiation of quarterly hangar inspections aimed at identifying issues such as sticking doors and trim problems. He provided a dedicated email address for maintenance reports (airportmaintenance@cleveland.texas.gov), assuring that the reporting process facilitates timely follow-up and resolution. Board members affirmed their commitment to ensuring that maintenance concerns are addressed promptly.
Industry Context and Broader Implications
The meeting’s emphasis on fuel resupply and proactive maintenance reflects wider trends within the aviation industry, as airports and airlines navigate uncertainties in regions including Latin America and the Caribbean. These challenges are compounded by unpredictable events that can disrupt operations. The focus on regulatory compliance and operational readiness coincides with ongoing Federal Aviation Administration reviews of emissions waivers and aircraft standards. Additionally, Wall Street analysts are intensifying scrutiny of the aviation market’s performance looking toward 2026.
Economic volatility remains a significant factor influencing the sector, underscored by recent dissent within the Federal Reserve and concerns over market valuations. These broader economic dynamics have potential indirect effects on airport operations and airline stock performance, underscoring the importance of strategic management at the local level.
The board concluded the meeting by approving the minutes from the November 6 session by voice vote.
