Boeing India Announces Winners of University Innovation Leadership Development Program
Boeing India has revealed the winners of the fifth edition of its University Innovation Leadership Development (BUILD) program, selecting seven teams of university students and early-stage entrepreneurs for their pioneering solutions across aerospace, medtech, and sustainability sectors. The victorious teams—Aerosearch Technologies, Alkamy Carbon, DIASOL Pvt. Ltd., EarthSprint Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Oreejoy MedTech Pvt. Ltd., StelX Dynamics, and SWRN Systems Pvt. Ltd.—will each receive a grant of INR 10 lakh. In addition, they will benefit from ongoing support provided by Boeing and its network of incubator partners to help advance their concepts into commercially viable business ventures.
Strengthening India’s Innovation Ecosystem
Salil Gupte, president of Boeing India and South Asia, underscored the increasing dynamism of India’s startup ecosystem, emphasizing BUILD’s role in bridging entrepreneurs, incubators, investors, and academic institutions. He remarked on the program’s evolution over five editions, noting the enduring collaborations and partnerships that have emerged. “As we reach our fifth edition, it is encouraging to see the relationships and collaborations fostered through BUILD continue beyond the program. I congratulate this year’s winners and participants and thank our partners for being part of BUILD’s growth journey,” Gupte stated.
Since its inception, BUILD has attracted over 7,000 applications and supported more than 35 startups spanning aerospace and defence, technology, sustainability, and social impact sectors. The program has broadened its engagement with India’s innovation ecosystem by facilitating closer collaboration between startups and investors, including venture capitalists. Finalists receive mentorship from Boeing engineers and technologists, enabling them to refine and strengthen their business ideas.
Stacie Sire, vice president and managing director of Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center, highlighted the critical role of mentorship within the program. She explained, “BUILD creates a unique opportunity for us to engage with the next generation of innovators and share the engineering expertise that Boeing has built over decades. What makes the program meaningful is the journey from an early-stage idea challenged, refined, and strengthened through mentorship and collaboration.”
Collaborative Partnerships and Industry Context
Boeing organizes BUILD in partnership with seven leading incubators across India, including IIT Mumbai’s Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Delhi’s Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Gandhinagar’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, IIT Madras Incubation Cell, IISc Bengaluru’s Foundation for Science Innovation and Development, T-Hub Hyderabad, and KIIT Bhubaneswar’s Technology and Business Incubator (TBI). These collaborations aim to foster innovation in aerospace, defence, technology, social impact, and sustainability.
The program’s expansion occurs amid broader industry challenges, notably concerns about job market disruptions driven by advances in artificial intelligence—a topic highlighted by global figures such as Bill Gates. This shifting landscape has encouraged startups to concentrate on sectors with resilient growth potential, including aerospace and medtech, as reflected in the strong participation and support witnessed in this year’s BUILD edition. Boeing’s initiative may also prompt competitive responses, with other aerospace firms like Lockheed Martin increasingly engaging with university programs to stimulate innovation and talent acquisition.
Beyond BUILD, Boeing India continues to invest in skill development and innovation through initiatives such as the HorizonX India Innovation Challenge and the Accelerated Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Apprenticeship. These efforts reinforce the company’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of Indian innovators and strengthening the country’s position in the global aerospace and technology sectors.
