National Airlines Orders More GE Aerospace CF6 and GE90 Engines

National Airlines Expands Fleet with Additional GE Aerospace Engines
New Engine Order to Support Growing Cargo Operations
At the Farnborough Airshow in England on July 23, 2026, GE Aerospace announced that National Airlines has placed an order for one GE90-110B and six CF6-80C2 engines. These engines will power the airline’s Boeing 777F and 747F freighter aircraft, reinforcing National Airlines’ commitment to expanding its cargo capabilities. The airline already operates a significant fleet powered by GE engines, including thirty CF6 and eight GE90 units.
Mohamed Ali, President and CEO of GE Aerospace Commercial Engines & Services, expressed enthusiasm about the continued partnership, highlighting that the new engine acquisition reflects National Airlines’ confidence in GE’s technology. He noted that these additional engines will enable the airline to meet increasing cargo demand effectively.
Engine Technology and Operational Impact
The GE90 engine family is the exclusive powerplant for all Boeing 777 models, including the 777-300ER, 777-200LR, and the freighter variants. It is renowned for pioneering advancements such as carbon fiber composite front fan blades, the world’s largest front fan measuring 128 inches in diameter, and a record-setting thrust of 127,900 pounds during certification testing.
National Airlines Chairman Chris Alf emphasized the importance of reliability, performance, and consistency in air cargo operations. He stated that the airline’s freighter fleet has been strategically built around GE Aerospace engine technology, and the addition of these new CF6 and GE90 engines will enhance operational flexibility, capacity, and resilience. This, he said, is essential to meeting the evolving needs of their customers over the long term.
The CF6 turbofan engine, which powers nearly 70% of the world’s widebody cargo aircraft, has a legacy spanning more than five decades. Its continuous technological evolution has established a reputation for dependability and durability, contributing to an efficient fleet with on-time arrivals and reduced maintenance costs.
