NBAA-BACE to Highlight Maintenance and Operations Amid Workforce Challenges
The National Business Aviation Association Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) will introduce a new session focused on maintenance and operations, addressing critical challenges faced by the business aviation industry. Titled “Maintenance and Operations: Practical Insights for Peak Performance,” the event is presented in partnership with Pinnacle Air Network and its members. It aims to enhance the maintenance and operations experience at NBAA-BACE by supplementing traditional educational offerings and expanding networking opportunities for attendees.
Addressing Workforce Shortages and Industry Demands
Scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, as the culmination of NBAA-BACE’s maintenance education track, this session arrives at a crucial moment for the sector. Business aviation continues to grapple with workforce shortages and intense competition for skilled labor. This challenge is highlighted by CrewBlast’s recent surge in placements across Europe and the expansion of training programs at Biggin Hill Airport. In response, there is growing market interest in workforce development, exemplified by the Air Charter Group’s expanded internship initiatives. Concurrently, advancements in simulator technology are progressing, with companies like Axis unveiling enhancements to Level D full-flight simulators to better meet evolving operator and training requirements.
To encourage professional growth, NBAA has applied for Inspection Authorization (IA) renewal credit for participants in this new session. Jo Damato, NBAA’s senior vice president for events and professional engagement, emphasized the significance of the addition: “This new feature event ensures NBAA-BACE is a targeted destination for directors of maintenance and technicians, supplementing the annual NBAA Maintenance Conference and maximizing educational and networking opportunities. The addition of this session creates multiple avenues for maintenance personnel to advance their expertise.”
Practical Guidance for Maintenance Professionals
The “Practical Insights for Peak Performance” session will serve as the cornerstone of the maintenance education offerings throughout the week, concentrating on three key areas. The first, Top 5 Tech Tips: Aircraft Specific Expertise, will provide attendees with direct access to subject matter experts from Aircraft Connection manufacturer exhibitors, delivering targeted technical knowledge. The second, MRO Insights: Overhauls and Upgrades Mastery, will feature maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) professionals sharing strategies to manage complex overhauls and upgrades with an emphasis on cost-effectiveness and operational continuity. The third focus area, Aircraft on Ground (AOG) Management: Prevention and Resolution, will offer practical measures to prevent AOG events and streamlined solutions for rapid resolution.
This emphasis on actionable, real-world guidance is particularly timely as the industry reflects on the long-term effects of labor disputes, such as the 20th anniversary of the Northwest Airlines mechanics’ strike, which underscored the vital importance of proactive workforce management in aviation maintenance.
Lance Phillips, executive director of Pinnacle Air Network, expressed pride in the partnership with NBAA, stating, “The Pinnacle Air Network members are proud to partner with NBAA in providing attendees an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow professionally while supporting NBAA’s advocacy and outreach.” Phil Stearns, director of sales and marketing at Stevens Aerospace and Defense Systems, described the event as “an incredibly valuable, content-rich event—a must-attend for maintenance directors and technicians.”
NBAA-BACE, taking place from October 14 to 16, will also showcase the latest innovations and services in the industry, bringing together leaders who are shaping the future of business aviation.
