PAM Singapore Inaugurates Annual Predictive Maintenance Conference
The first Asia-Pacific edition of the Predictive Aircraft Maintenance (PAM) conference commenced at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands convention centre, attracting industry leaders and delegates to deliberate on the future of aviation maintenance. Amid mounting pressure on the sector to innovate, PAM Singapore aspires to establish itself as a pivotal platform for collaboration and the exchange of expertise in predictive maintenance.
Keynote Insights and Technological Innovations
The opening session featured Nicholas Tan, Vice President of the Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers, who presented the “Three Pillars of Predictive Maintenance Success.” Tan underscored that the primary challenge lies not in the technology itself but in integrating new systems into existing workflows while harnessing human expertise. He emphasized that predictive maintenance represents a fundamental transformation of aviation rather than a mere IT project, calling for the cultivation of an ecosystem and talent development to shape the industry’s future.
Representatives from GE Aerospace, including David Harper and Dermot O’Hara, demonstrated practical applications such as engine health monitoring and AI-driven analytics. They highlighted how artificial intelligence is broadening the scope of conditions monitored continuously and how close cooperation between diagnostic and airline engineers is enhancing maintenance planning. Mahmoud El Sawah, Founder and CEO of AirNxt, addressed these issues by advocating for “living digital twins” to rebuild trust and simplify operational processes. He argued that as aviation evolves, simplicity and transparency will be essential for widespread acceptance.

A panel discussion examined how Asia-Pacific airlines are transitioning from traditional reactive maintenance to predictive approaches. Joan Ng of Singapore Airlines emphasized the critical role of industry-wide collaboration and comprehensive data capture, noting the airline’s focus on leveraging full flight data and proprietary AI applications to improve maintenance outcomes. Ng stressed the importance of close partnerships in achieving predictive maintenance objectives.
Nithia Kumar of Malaysia Airlines highlighted the vast data generated by new-generation aircraft, underscoring the necessity of harnessing sensor data to enhance efficiency and reliability. Mark Mazarek of Boeing discussed the region’s rapid growth and the imperative for supply chain alignment, stressing that as the number of airlines and aircraft increases, collaboration and technological integration across the supply chain will be vital.
However, PAM Singapore faces significant challenges in establishing itself within a competitive landscape. Upcoming events such as Industrial Transformation ASIA-PACIFIC 2025 are anticipated to draw considerable attention from the advanced manufacturing sector, potentially diverting key participants and speakers.
