Rohde & Schwarz Unveils AI Voice-to-Data Technology at Airspace World 2026
Rohde & Schwarz is set to introduce its latest innovation, the CERTIUM AI solution, at Airspace World 2026, taking place from May 26 to 28 in Lisbon. The company will provide live demonstrations at booth F28 in hall 1, showcasing how its AI-driven system converts pilot-controller radio communications into real-time, actionable data for air traffic controllers (ATC). This technology promises to enhance operational efficiency by delivering critical information directly within existing ATC systems.
Enhancing Air Traffic Control with AI Integration
Developed in partnership with the German Aerospace Center (DLR), CERTIUM AI integrates voice-derived data seamlessly into radar displays and flight data environments. This integration aims to improve situational awareness and reduce controller workload by making essential information instantly accessible. The system supports early detection of potential inconsistencies, thereby reinforcing the highest safety standards through intelligent automation.
CERTIUM AI forms part of the broader CERTIUM suite, an integrated communication environment designed to adapt smoothly to current operational workflows. Its implementation follows a project-based approach, allowing customization to meet the specific needs of different ATC environments.
At Airspace World, Rohde & Schwarz and DLR will jointly demonstrate the practical application of AI within operational ATC settings. The event will also feature a panel discussion on the future role of AI in air traffic management, with participation from experts representing EANS, Rohde & Schwarz, and DLR.
“Air traffic control is becoming increasingly complex; the challenge is to introduce new technologies in a way that delivers real operational value,” stated Marius Münstermann, Vice President Air Traffic Control at Rohde & Schwarz. “With CERTIUM AI, we demonstrate how Artificial Intelligence can be integrated into existing workflows to support controllers, while maintaining the highest safety standards.”
Industry Context and Global Technological Developments
The launch of CERTIUM AI occurs amid intensifying competition in the AI technology sector. Established companies such as Nvidia continue to dominate AI infrastructure, and any shifts in their market position could significantly impact industry dynamics and investor confidence. Concurrently, competitors like Sunhillo are also present at Airspace World 2026, highlighting advancements in UAV surveillance data solutions and reflecting a broader strategic emphasis on related technologies within the sector.
On a global scale, the technological landscape is evolving rapidly, with firms such as China’s DeepSeek and Huawei making notable progress in AI and chip development. These developments challenge the traditional dominance of US-based companies and contribute to a more balanced global technology race. This environment underscores the imperative for companies like Rohde & Schwarz to innovate and differentiate their offerings amid a swiftly changing market.
As the air traffic management industry continues its digital transformation, solutions like CERTIUM AI represent a significant advancement in harnessing artificial intelligence to improve safety, efficiency, and operational resilience in increasingly complex airspace environments.
