Rolls-Royce and DHL Express Enter TotalCare Agreement for A330 Trent 700 Engines

Rolls-Royce and DHL Express have formalized a TotalCare® agreement covering the Trent 700 engines that power DHL’s fleet of eight Airbus A330 freighter aircraft. Announced today, the contract will also extend to any additional Trent 700 engines incorporated into DHL’s fleet in the future, reinforcing a long-term partnership between the two companies.

Comprehensive Engine Support and Cost Predictability

TotalCare is Rolls-Royce’s comprehensive engine maintenance and support program, designed to provide predictable costs while maximizing aircraft availability. Under this agreement, DHL will benefit from a dollar-per-flying-hour payment model, which secures operational and maintenance expenses for its Trent 700 engines. This structure aims to enhance cost efficiency and reliability, critical factors in the highly competitive logistics and aviation industries.

The Trent 700 engine, which has amassed over 62 million flying hours across more than 25 years of service, powers both the A330-200F and A330 P2F freighter variants within DHL’s fleet. It is widely recognized for delivering the highest thrust in its class, enabling greater payload capacity compared to alternative engines. Furthermore, the Trent 700 is noted for its fuel efficiency, reduced CO2 emissions, and an industry-leading dispatch reliability rate of 99.9 percent.

Strategic Benefits and Industry Impact

Through the TotalCare agreement, DHL will gain access to Rolls-Royce’s advanced engine health monitoring systems and technical expertise, ensuring continuous aftermarket support while optimizing maintenance costs over the long term. This partnership highlights DHL’s commitment to maintaining best-in-class reliability standards and operational excellence across its global network.

Hannah March, Vice President Customers at Rolls-Royce, remarked, “We are delighted to continue supporting DHL following our successful collaboration on the RB211-535E4. This agreement is another example of delivering world-class services to DHL, enabled by the Trent 700—the best engine for the A330 freighter.”

Geoff Kehr, Senior Vice President – Global Fleet Management at DHL, added, “TotalCare gives us the opportunity to maintain our Trent 700 fleet to best-in-class reliability standards by leveraging the scale and reputed Rolls-Royce capability. This frees time and resources so DHL may focus on other fleet maintenance optimization and operational aspects. With the TotalCare agreement, we are not just investing in engine maintenance; we are investing in the future of our global operations, allowing us to provide unparalleled service to our customers worldwide.”

The partnership is expected to prompt competitors to enhance their own engine maintenance offerings as market focus intensifies on cost efficiency and reliability. By securing this agreement, DHL strengthens its position as a leader in the logistics sector, prepared to meet evolving global demands with confidence and operational efficiency.
