Ryanair Expands Multi-Year Engine Support Partnership with CFM

Ryanair Expands Multi-Year Engine Support Partnership with CFM
Strengthening a Landmark Collaboration
Ryanair has significantly deepened its strategic alliance with CFM International through the signing of a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for engine material services. This agreement will support the airline’s entire fleet of CFM56 and LEAP-1B engines, which power its Boeing 737 Next-Generation and 737 MAX aircraft. As Ryanair plans to expand its fleet to approximately 800 aircraft and over 2,000 engines in the coming years, the partnership ensures a robust supply chain and operational continuity.
The MoU, announced on 10 February 2026, commits Ryanair to purchasing all spare parts directly from CFM as part of its maintenance programme. This expanded collaboration marks a major milestone in the 30-year relationship between the two companies, reinforcing their joint capacity for growth and resilience well into the next decade.
Comprehensive Engine Support and Transition to In-House Maintenance
Under the terms of the agreement, CFM will provide comprehensive material services, including spare parts procurement and repairs, for Ryanair’s entire fleet of legacy CFM56-7B and newer LEAP-1B engines. The airline anticipates that its annual spare parts purchases will exceed USD 1 billion as its fleet continues to grow.
A key element of the partnership is Ryanair’s planned transition to in-house engine maintenance. From 2029, the airline intends to open two dedicated Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities in Europe. These new engine shops will enhance Ryanair’s internal maintenance capabilities, improve turnaround times, and reduce reliance on third-party providers. This move is expected to mitigate industry-wide backlogs and strengthen supply chain resilience amid rising global demand for aviation services and components.
Long-Term Impact on Ryanair and the Aviation Industry
This agreement extends a long-standing relationship that began in 1998, positioning Ryanair as one of CFM’s largest customers worldwide. The partnership not only secures the reliability of Ryanair’s fleet but also aligns both companies for future operational synergy and growth.
For travellers, the enhanced engine support and transition to in-house maintenance promise improved fleet reliability and schedule consistency, reducing the likelihood of unexpected aircraft groundings. Industry analysts view this deal as pivotal in ensuring Ryanair’s continued expansion and operational efficiency in a competitive and rapidly evolving aviation market.
