Sabre, a leading US-based Global Distribution System and technology provider, has unveiled its first suite of agentic artificial intelligence (AI) software protocols aimed at transforming the travel and aviation industry. The announcement was made at the T2RLEngage conference in London, where Sabre introduced new agentic-ready APIs supported by its proprietary Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This server acts as a universal translator, enabling AI agents to interpret the complex language of travel technology and facilitating seamless integration across various systems.
The initial deployment of these technologies will focus on flights, hotels, and post-booking services, leveraging Sabre’s extensive Travel Data Cloud. These tools are designed to enable AI agents to shop, book, service, and optimize travel itineraries in real time, effectively moving agentic AI from theoretical frameworks into practical, scalable applications. Sabre aims to accelerate innovation throughout the travel sector by empowering AI to address customer pain points that traditionally consume significant time and resources.
Garry Wiseman, Sabre’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, highlighted the distinction between intelligence and true scalability in AI. He stated, “With our new MCP server and agentic-ready APIs—supported by Sabre IQ and our industry-leading travel data set—we’re planting a stake in the ground. This is the smartest enterprise AI solution in travel, designed for the entire industry to build on.”
Practical Applications and Industry Implications
Sabre envisions a broad range of agentic AI tools emerging from its platform. These include call-center proxy agents capable of managing airline disruptions by handling rebookings, processing payments, and updating travelers’ calendars automatically. Hotel operations agents will manage late arrivals, prevent room resales, and oversee guest preferences. Additional tools will facilitate agent-to-agent collaboration between agencies’ AI systems, automate visa and compliance applications, and streamline expense filing by gathering receipts and submitting reports in accordance with company policies.
These innovations aim to automate labor-intensive tasks, enhancing efficiency and reducing costs for both businesses and consumers. However, the advancement of agentic AI also raises important considerations regarding risk management and data security.
