SkyTeam and PA Consulting Receive Awards for Sustainability and Innovation in Aviation

SkyTeam and PA Consulting Recognized for Advancing Sustainability and Innovation in Aviation
SkyTeam and PA Consulting have been honored for their leadership in sustainability and innovation at the 2025 Association for Project Management (APM) Awards. The accolade acknowledges their collaborative efforts in driving environmental solutions within the aviation sector, highlighting the success of The Aviation Challenge (TAC), a global sustainability competition spearheaded by SkyTeam.
The Aviation Challenge: A Collaborative Approach to Sustainable Aviation
Held at London’s Park Plaza in mid-November, the awards celebrated TAC’s achievements in 2024, where 24 airlines participated in executing 33 showcase flights. These flights implemented and scaled sustainable solutions in real-world operations, resulting in a significant 10% reduction in CO2 intensity compared to baseline levels and a 20% reduction relative to industry standards. Over 140 solutions were successfully expanded beyond initial testing phases, demonstrating the initiative’s practical impact.
PA Consulting provided strategic guidance and industry expertise throughout the challenge, playing a crucial role in shaping its design. TAC Programme Manager Robin Spierings emphasized PA Consulting’s contribution, stating that their focus on specific categories fostered the development of innovative solutions for the future of aviation. Their rigorous evaluation of airline submissions ensured the programme was grounded in a solid, proven approach, enhancing its overall effectiveness and impact.
Industry Recognition and Implications for Aviation
Judges at the APM Awards commended the initiative for its “imaginative, data-driven and refreshingly collaborative response to transforming how airlines approach sustainability.” They highlighted the combination of disciplined project management and open-source collaboration as a pioneering model for industry-wide climate action.
This recognition arrives amid ongoing challenges and difficult market conditions within the aviation industry, as noted by carriers such as Spirit Airlines. The achievements of SkyTeam and PA Consulting may encourage competitors to accelerate their own sustainability and innovation efforts to maintain competitiveness. The market could see increased investor interest in sustainable aviation projects, while the broader industry may seek to replicate and scale successful models like TAC.
The APM, the chartered body for the project profession, annually honors outstanding achievements across various sectors. With over 45,000 individual members and more than 400 organizations in its Corporate Partnership Programme, the association frequently recognizes consulting firms like PA Consulting for their expertise and contributions to major projects in business and government. Previous recipients include MIGSO-PCUBED and P2 Consulting, noted for their innovation and project management excellence.
SkyTeam and PA Consulting’s recognition underscores the growing importance of sustainability and innovation in aviation, setting a benchmark for collaborative progress and climate action across the industry.
