Starlinks Chooses Swisslog for Aviation Logistics Automation in Saudi Arabia

Starlinks Partners with Swisslog to Automate Aviation Logistics in Saudi Arabia
Starlinks, a prominent logistics and supply chain solutions provider in the Gulf region, has selected Swisslog to implement a comprehensive warehouse automation programme at a new aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in Saudi Arabia. Situated within one of the region’s key aviation hubs, the facility aims to address the growing demand for aircraft maintenance services and spare parts logistics across Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East.
Meeting the Growing Demand for Aviation Supply Chains
With airlines in the region expanding their fleets and increasing both passenger and cargo capacities, the need for efficient and scalable supply chains has become paramount. Starlinks is managing the entire supply chain solution, including design, automation planning, and operational execution. Swisslog will provide advanced warehouse automation systems and software designed to optimise inventory storage, material handling, and distribution throughout the facility.
The automation solution integrates a high-density AutoStore system for compact storage of MRO spare parts alongside pallet automation and Swisslog’s SynQ software platform. This combination facilitates coordinated handling of both small parts and palletised inventory, ensuring rapid access to critical components while maximising warehouse space utilisation. The AutoStore system operates through a modular grid with robots retrieving items from above, while the pallet automation includes Swisslog Vectura stacker cranes, ProMove pallet conveyors, a pallet shuttle car, inbound transport systems, and picking stations. Together, these technologies create a seamless material flow connecting receiving, inspection, storage, and order fulfilment processes.
Strategic Implications and Market Context
This investment represents a significant advancement in establishing a highly automated logistics infrastructure capable of supporting current operations and future growth within the aviation sector. Alexander Komianos, Managing Director UAE & Solutions at Starlinks, highlighted Saudi Arabia’s substantial investments in aviation, logistics, and industrial capabilities. He emphasised the necessity for supply chains that can scale efficiently to meet increasingly complex operational demands. By combining Starlinks’ logistics expertise with Swisslog’s proven automation technologies, the partnership aims to lay a robust foundation for sustained growth and operational excellence.
The collaboration emerges amid a competitive landscape where Swissport, supported by its partnership with Flynas, currently commands a significant share of the Saudi aviation logistics market. The Starlinks-Swisslog alliance is expected to attract close attention from other logistics providers and airlines in the region, potentially prompting them to enhance their logistics capabilities or forge new strategic partnerships to maintain competitiveness. This dynamic may accelerate investments in technology and services as competitors seek to match or exceed the automation capabilities introduced by Swisslog.
Rami Younes, General Manager of Swisslog Middle East, expressed pride in supporting Starlinks on this critical programme. He noted that the integration of AutoStore technology, pallet automation, and SynQ software will ensure high inventory availability, efficient space utilisation, and reliable material flow—capabilities essential to managing the increasing scale and complexity of aviation supply chains in the region.
As Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector continues to evolve, the partnership between Starlinks and Swisslog highlights the growing importance of advanced automation in sustaining operational efficiency and competitiveness within a rapidly transforming market.
