Titan Aviation Leasing Acquires Boeing 777-300ER Leased to Philippine Airlines
Dublin, October 13, 2025 – Titan Aviation Leasing, a joint venture between Titan Aviation Holdings, Inc. (a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide) and Bain Capital, has announced the acquisition of a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, manufacturer serial number 61735. The aircraft is currently on a long-term lease to Philippine Airlines, the national flag carrier of the Philippines, and will continue to be managed by Titan.
Strategic Expansion in the Asia-Pacific Market
This acquisition is part of Titan’s broader strategy to expand its portfolio of long-haul, widebody aircraft and to strengthen its footprint in the Asia-Pacific region, where demand for efficient, high-capacity jets remains strong. By acquiring an in-service aircraft leased to a well-established carrier, Titan aims to secure stable cash flows while diversifying its customer base. Eamonn Forbes, Chief Commercial Officer at Titan Aviation Leasing, emphasized the significance of the deal, stating, “We are pleased to support the growth of Philippine Airlines. This transaction reflects Titan’s disciplined capital deployment strategy while enhancing geographic and customer diversification.”
The Boeing 777-300ER is widely regarded for its operational efficiency, offering a range of approximately 7,370 nautical miles and high passenger capacity with twin-engine performance. These attributes enable airlines to operate dense, long-haul routes nonstop, maintaining competitive seat-mile economics. The aircraft’s reliability and commonality within the 777 family further contribute to strong operational performance and streamlined maintenance.
Market and Regulatory Challenges
Despite the strategic benefits, the acquisition occurs amid a challenging market environment for large widebody aircraft. Demand for such aircraft can be volatile, and Titan faces competition from other leasing companies that may adjust leasing terms or expand their fleets in response. Additionally, leasing rates for similar aircraft could fluctuate as the market reacts to this transaction.
Regulatory scrutiny also remains a key consideration. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has recently intensified inspections related to lightning protection systems on Boeing 777 aircraft. This development could affect operational planning and increase maintenance costs for both operators and lessors.
