AMAC Aerospace Reports Recent Achievements and Strategic Expansion
AMAC Aerospace has announced a series of significant milestones achieved over the past year, highlighting its growing influence within the global maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) industry. At its Basel, Switzerland facility, the company completed maintenance on more than 50 widebody aircraft, over 120 narrowbody aircraft, and upwards of 250 midsize jets. To accommodate this surge in activity, AMAC expanded its workforce by adding more than 80 new technicians to its Basel team.
Strengthening Partnerships and Expanding Service Capabilities
Since joining the Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ) Service Centre Network in December 2024, AMAC has worked closely with Airbus to deliver multiple projects during the first half of 2025. This collaboration has enabled the company to broaden its service offerings and solidify its position as a leading MRO provider for ACJ operators worldwide. Plans are underway to further extend its agreement within the Airbus group, reflecting AMAC’s commitment to strategic growth.
In April, AMAC managed five Boeing B747 projects concurrently at its Basel facility. These included a B747-400 undergoing a 6A check and Starlink installation, another B747-400 receiving a comprehensive D check, and three B747-8 aircraft undergoing a variety of maintenance tasks. These tasks ranged from 36-month checks and structural repairs to cabin refurbishments and upgrades to in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) systems.
A particularly notable technical accomplishment involved the repair of 53 stringer cracks discovered on a B747-8i during routine maintenance. AMAC’s in-house sheet metal department fabricated all uniquely shaped parts required for the repair, enabling swift completion without delays from external sourcing. The company collaborated closely with Boeing throughout this process and is preparing a second stringer repair kit for another B747-8i, anticipating increased demand for such specialized repairs.
Diversification and Market Demand
While maintaining strong demand for Airbus and Boeing projects, AMAC has also expanded its services for midsize aircraft, especially Bombardier models. This growth is driven by rising demand in regions such as Africa and India, alongside a surge in aircraft ownership changes. For midsize jets, AMAC offers interior refurbishments, connectivity upgrades, and rapid pre-purchase inspections (PPIs). The company reports particularly high demand for PPIs, reflecting a revival in the private aviation transaction market. Leveraging its ample hangar space, AMAC provides flexible, short-notice slot allocations to accommodate this demand.
Over the past six months, AMAC has completed numerous customized satellite communications (satcom) installations, supporting both traditional systems and next-generation technologies, including low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations. With more than 50 Ka-/Ku-band installations and several LEO projects finalized, the company continues to see growing demand for these advanced connectivity services.
Challenges and Competitive Landscape
Despite these achievements, AMAC faces challenges in maintaining competitive pricing amid rising raw material costs and securing skilled labor to support its expanded modification capabilities. The company’s recent strategic acquisitions have enhanced its service portfolio and attracted increased investor interest. In response, competitors are likely to pursue similar acquisitions or enhancements to their modification and support offerings to remain competitive in the evolving MRO landscape.
