According to Valour Consultancy’s latest report, Future of Flat Panel Antennas, released in April 2026, nearly 10,000 flat panel antennas are expected to be installed on business aircraft by 2035. This segment is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 45%, underscoring the sector’s rapid adoption of advanced connectivity solutions.
Drivers of Growth in Business Aviation
Arabella Kearney, co-author of the report, highlights that business aviation outpaces other aviation sectors in growth due to rising customer expectations for faster and more reliable service. The increasing use of high-bandwidth applications such as video streaming and live calls is a significant factor. The entry of SpaceX into the market in 2022, demonstrating the high performance and low latency capabilities of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks on larger business aircraft, has further accelerated this trend.
North America is anticipated to lead this adoption, with approximately 5,500 units expected to be installed in the region. The dominance of North America is largely attributed to the prevalence of large cabin jets operating on long-haul routes, including transatlantic flights, where passengers demand consistent and high-quality onboard connectivity. Kearney notes that the size and range of these jets support sustained growth throughout the forecast period.
Market Evolution and Broader Industry Trends
Since Valour Consultancy’s initial report in 2023, the flat panel antenna market has undergone significant transformation. Earlier projections estimated shipments across all communications on the move (COTM) applications would reach 100,000 units by 2030. This forecast has been substantially revised upward, with nearly 500,000 units now expected by 2035 across aviation, land mobility, and maritime sectors. Notably, land mobility has emerged as the fastest-growing vertical overall, despite a slower start.
Several factors underpin this acceleration. Confidence in LEO connectivity has increased markedly, with end-users prioritizing solutions that offer low latency, resilience, and redundancy. Technological advancements in semiconductors and improved economies of scale have reduced hardware costs, enabling earlier market penetration in land mobility and maritime sectors than previously anticipated.
Competitive Dynamics and Industry Consolidation
The competitive landscape is intensifying as major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Textron Aviation, Gulfstream Aerospace, and Bombardier compete for market share in Europe and globally. This competition has spurred heightened investment in research and development, innovation, and strategic initiatives including partnerships, new product launches, and pricing strategies aimed at differentiation.
Recent industry data reflects this momentum. Bombardier’s order book has surged to $20 billion, signaling robust demand, while Gulfstream Aerospace recorded a first-quarter high in business jet deliveries. Established and emerging players—including SpaceX, Intellian, Kymeta, Thinkom, LiteComs, ALL.SPACE, Requtech AB, and Gilat Satellite Networks—are actively shipping products to customers worldwide.
The sector is also witnessing increased consolidation. Notable transactions include BAE Systems’ acquisition of Ball Aerospace and Gilat Satellite Networks’ purchase of Stellar Blu, known for its SideWinder solution. These moves are expected to further shape the competitive environment and drive innovation.
As passenger expectations for seamless connectivity continue to rise, business aviation is positioned to remain at the forefront of flat panel antenna adoption, catalyzing innovation and competition across the broader mobility market.
