Daher Targets Record TBM Delivery

Daher Pursues Record TBM Deliveries Amid Strong Market Demand
French aerospace manufacturer Daher is poised for a record-breaking year with its TBM 980 single-engine turboprop, just six months after the model’s launch. The company has already delivered 30 units and holds an order book extending into 2027. Daher aims to deliver 60 new aircraft by the end of 2026, a target that would surpass its previous calendar-year delivery record for the TBM series. In 2023, the company delivered 51 TBMs, while the all-time high remains 57, set in 2017.
Innovation and Market Response
The TBM 980, which replaced the TBM 960 earlier this year, incorporates significant upgrades including Garmin’s advanced avionics suite and a Pratt & Whitney PT6E-66XT FADEC turbine engine paired with a five-blade Hartzell composite propeller. Notably, half of the TBM 980 buyers are existing TBM owners opting to upgrade to the latest model, which features 14-inch Garmin 3000 avionics. Nicolas Chabbert, CEO of Daher Aircraft, emphasized that the TBM’s success is rooted in “purposeful innovation,” highlighting the strong confidence demonstrated by returning customers worldwide.
Despite ongoing supply chain disruptions affecting the broader aviation industry, as detailed in the recent AIN Product Support Survey 2026, Daher’s market reception for the TBM 980 remains overwhelmingly positive. These challenges have raised concerns about the company’s ability to sustain its accelerated production pace, yet the robust demand underscores Daher's solid position in the high-performance turboprop segment.
Market Dynamics and Competitive Landscape
The strong demand for new TBMs is reflected in the pre-owned market, where availability is notably scarce. Of the 218 TBM 960s delivered, only three are currently listed for sale, and just four of the earlier TBM 940s are on the market from a total production of 124. This limited supply highlights the aircraft’s enduring popularity and strong residual value.
Daher’s success with the TBM 980 may prompt competitive responses within the industry. Observers suggest that major players such as Bombardier, a dominant force in the business jet sector, could face increased pressure to accelerate their own production rates to maintain market share, as indicated by the AIN survey.
The TBM program, initially developed through a partnership between Socata and Mooney before Mooney’s withdrawal in 1990, has produced over 1,300 aircraft across all variants. Since acquiring a controlling stake in Socata in 2009, Daher has continued to evolve the TBM line through successive upgrades.
As Daher strives to set a new delivery record, its ability to manage ongoing supply chain challenges will be closely monitored by customers and competitors alike in the coming months.
