EgyptAir Receives First Airbus A350-900 to Expand Long-Haul Fleet

EgyptAir Takes Delivery of First Airbus A350-900, Becoming North Africa’s Launch Operator
EgyptAir has received its first Airbus A350-900, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s long-haul fleet modernization and establishing it as the launch operator of the A350 in North Africa. The aircraft was officially handed over in Toulouse on 9 February 2026 and represents the first of 16 A350-900s on order. This new-generation widebody jet is set to play a pivotal role in EgyptAir’s network expansion from its Cairo hub, enabling the introduction of new non-stop long-haul routes, including services to the US West Coast and North Asia. With its extended range and enhanced efficiency, the A350 will substantially strengthen the airline’s competitiveness in ultra-long-haul markets.
Advancing Passenger Comfort and Experience
The EgyptAir A350-900 features a two-class cabin layout, comprising 30 Business Class suites with direct aisle access and 310 Economy Class seats. The aircraft is outfitted with Airbus’ latest-generation Airspace cabin, which is designed to elevate the long-haul travel experience through improved ergonomics, quieter cabins, advanced lighting systems, and a greater sense of spaciousness. These enhancements benefit both passengers and crew, setting a new standard for comfort on EgyptAir’s long-haul services.
Efficiency, Sustainability, and Operational Range
The Airbus A350 is widely recognized as the most advanced widebody aircraft currently in service, capable of flying up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometres) non-stop. Its cutting-edge aerodynamics, extensive use of lightweight composite materials, and state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce engines contribute to a 25% reduction in fuel consumption, operating costs, and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft. In alignment with Airbus’ sustainability goals, the A350 is certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with a target to achieve 100% SAF capability by 2030.
Strengthening EgyptAir’s Airbus Fleet
This delivery further solidifies EgyptAir’s longstanding partnership with Airbus. The airline currently operates an all-Airbus fleet, including eight A320neos, seven A321neos, and 11 A330 Family aircraft, which feature five A330-200P2F freighters. The addition of the A350-900 enhances the airline’s fleet versatility and capacity, supporting its ambitions for international growth.
The Airbus A350 Programme’s Global Success
The A350 programme continues to enjoy robust market demand. As of January 2026, the A350 Family had secured over 1,500 orders from 67 customers worldwide, underscoring its role as a cornerstone in long-haul fleet renewal strategies globally. For EgyptAir, the introduction of the A350-900 represents a decisive step toward a more efficient, sustainable, and globally competitive long-haul operation, positioning the airline for its next phase of international expansion.
