Korean Air Unveils AI-Enabled Drones at Drone Show Korea 2026
Korean Air is prominently showcasing its expanding aerospace ambitions at Drone Show Korea 2026, Asia’s largest drone exhibition, held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) from February 25 to 27. The event gathers over 300 companies from 23 countries, spotlighting the latest advancements in drone technology, defense systems, and urban air mobility.
Exhibition Highlights and Technological Innovations
At this year’s show, Korean Air is presenting a diverse array of artificial intelligence-powered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) alongside advanced air mobility (AAM) technologies. The airline’s exhibit is organized into two primary zones. The Drone Zone features the domestic debut of an AI-powered subsonic UAV developed in collaboration with U.S. defense technology firm Anduril Industries. This section also includes AI-enabled multi-purpose UAVs, loitering munitions, communication relay drones, and drone swarm-based Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) solutions.
In the AAM Zone, Korean Air highlights its proprietary operations and traffic control platform, ACROSS (Air Control and Routing Orchestrated Skyway System). This is complemented by a mockup of an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft from its strategic partner, Archer Aviation, underscoring the airline’s commitment to next-generation urban air mobility.
Beyond the exhibition, Korean Air is conducting a series of technology seminars. On February 25, the airline detailed its UAV capabilities and technology roadmap. A joint AAM seminar with Archer Aviation is scheduled for February 26, followed by the signing of memoranda of understanding with global AAM partners, signaling a collaborative approach to advancing aerospace innovation.
Industry Context and Strategic Positioning
A Korean Air representative emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “Drone Show Korea provides an important opportunity to demonstrate Korean Air’s expanding capabilities in AI-driven software and next-generation aerospace technologies. We remain committed to evolving into a world-class comprehensive aerospace company by continuously pushing the boundaries of aviation innovation.”
However, the unveiling of AI-enabled drones occurs amid considerable industry challenges. Regulatory hurdles, particularly concerning aviation safety and privacy, continue to impede the widespread deployment of autonomous aerial systems. The market response has been mixed, with traditional aviation stakeholders expressing caution about integrating these emerging technologies into established operations. Concurrently, competitors are advancing through both collaborative initiatives aimed at accelerating drone technology development and aggressive marketing campaigns promoting their own unmanned aerial systems.
The broader defense and aerospace sector, as reflected at Drone Show Korea and anticipated at forthcoming events such as the Singapore Airshow 2026, is poised to intensify innovation and competition in AI-enabled combat systems and autonomous defense technologies. Korean Air’s active participation signals a strategic shift beyond conventional airline operations, focusing on physical AI and smart mobility to position itself at the forefront of comprehensive aerospace innovation.
Drone Show Korea 2026 will continue through February 27 at BEXCO, featuring additional drone light shows at Gwangalli Beach and Ttukseom Hangang Park.
