Magnetic MRO Opens Fifth Hangar at Tallinn Facility

Magnetic MRO Expands Heavy Maintenance Capacity with New Hangar in Tallinn
Magnetic MRO, a prominent global provider of aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul services, has officially opened its fifth hangar at Tallinn Airport (EETN), marking a significant expansion of its base maintenance operations. The new facility, which became operational in early January 2026, adds 8,800 square meters of space and includes three heavy maintenance bays that are now fully active, supporting ongoing base maintenance activities.
Enhancing Operational Capability and Economic Impact
This expansion is expected to generate 80 direct jobs and approximately 240 indirect positions within the local aviation sector, reinforcing Tallinn’s status as a vital MRO hub in Europe. The increased capacity will enable Magnetic MRO to manage a higher volume of maintenance work on CFM56-5/-7 and CFM Leap engines, aligning with forecasts that anticipate Europe’s airframe heavy maintenance market to average $2.1 billion annually over the next decade.
Jan Kotka, Managing Director at Magnetic MRO, emphasized that the expansion is not solely about capacity but also about enhancing capability. He noted that the additional space allows the company to scale critical maintenance checks, integrate advanced digital and data-driven processes, and introduce new services demanded by customers. These improvements aim to set a higher standard for turnaround times, transparency, and total cost of ownership.
The new hangar is designed to meet LEED Silver certification standards for energy efficiency and is equipped with a 150 kW solar power system. It also features specialized aircraft maintenance platforms, including tail docks, wing platforms, and access stairs, which contribute to improved operational efficiency and safety. Magnetic MRO describes this development as achieving a “sweet spot” in balancing demand with capability within the heavy maintenance segment.
Navigating a Competitive European MRO Landscape
The expansion occurs amid a competitive and evolving European MRO environment. Other providers, such as TAP Air Portugal, are also increasing their maintenance capacities, with TAP currently expanding its Porto facility. This trend may intensify competition for both customers and skilled labor. Magnetic MRO’s growth strategy will need to address challenges including regulatory compliance, workforce training, and the potential for competitors to form strategic partnerships to protect market share.
Looking forward, Magnetic MRO plans to focus on further expanding its engine workshop capabilities and developing talent through its Magnetic Academy. Aavo Kuus, Business Development Manager at Magnetic MRO, highlighted that continued growth at Tallinn Airport ensures airlines receive reliable access and predictable outcomes, which remain key reasons customers choose the company.
Staffed by experienced engineers and technicians, the new hangar underscores Magnetic MRO’s commitment to maintaining high service quality and safety standards, positioning the company to meet the increasing demand in the European heavy maintenance market.
