Pilot Josh Carroll was en route to Tyler Pounds Regional Airport when the engine of his 1979 Cessna single-engine plane failed. Demonstrating skill and composure, Carroll managed to safely land the aircraft just outside Toll 49 on Texas Highway 31. According to Carroll, there were no injuries resulting from the incident, and the aircraft remained intact.
Flight tracking data from FlightAware.com indicates that the plane departed San Antonio’s Stinson Municipal Airport at 9:58 p.m. on Wednesday and arrived in Tyler at 12:12 a.m. on Thursday. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) records show the plane is registered to Tyler Flyers Inc., a company based in Tyler.
In the immediate aftermath, eastbound lanes of Chandler Highway were temporarily closed to allow emergency crews to respond and clear the scene. Traffic flow was restored shortly thereafter with at least one lane reopened.
